While it's true UFO dealt with a vast group of story ideas, as Gareth has
pointed out, not all were handled with the parameters the series originally
started out with. A bad script is still a bad script if the characters don't
work as they're supposed to, the science or props used are laughable, and
the initial idea sucks. Timelash and Reflections are perfect examples of
scripts being utilized for their cost-effectiveness budget-wise, not because
they are good stories. Gerry and Sylvia, who as originators and producers,
had the power to reject poor scripts, should have sent those back to the
writers responsible with bags of kitty litter. I still say lack of creative
integrity did as much to "kill" UFO as the ratings did - in fact, I think
the failing American ratings in 1970 were a direct result of creative
integrity failure. I know as a 12 yr old watching these eps for the first
time, even I was smart enough to say they sucked.
