Hi James - quite a valid point - my reason for appreciating the idea of a
Mars base was partly because of its varying locations, but also because it
is "positioned" in our system further out and at certain points of the Mars
year might actually have a better vantage point for things detection, and
sending probes out of our own system, etc. Always good to keep these probs
in mind tho - maybe I should be running all my ideas for my story by you
FIRST!

Ciao - Pam

Not at all .. I just find these things interesting to talk about!
One has to allow for artistic licence. In any case you're right,
at times it would be in an advantageous position for early
detection. I think Lieve already has a base there actually,
maybe
she can shed some light ;)

Cheers

Ah, can't, answer is classified!

Best solution is a few ISS-type things stationed around the globe. Each
with a docking bay for an interceptor or two. Having 1 SID isn't enough
either. I would have 48 SIDs all around, not only for space intruder
detecting but for communications. Of course, if we have lots of ISS-es, we
don't need the SIDs, that system can be incorporated in the ISS. No, make
that SSS (Shado Space Station rather than International)
Mmm, on the other hand, SIDs are smaller and would make a smaller target,
better have a few of them up there as well....
