This is conjecture, though, isn't it? Because there are NO clusters on
any ribbons he is actually wearing in Identified.

Oddly enough, I don't see a Vietnam medal - I see a Korean war medal.

This is what I make out from the scene where he falls out of the Rolls:

One row of two and four rows of three ribbons as follows:

1. Silver Star
2. Legion of Merit

3. Distinguished Flying Cross
4. AF Organizational Excellence Award
5. Air Medal

6. Joint Service Commendation Medal
7. AF Commendation Medal
8. Purple Heart

9. Outstanding Unit Award
10. AF Good Conduct Medal
11. National Defense Medal

12. Korean Service Medal
13. AF Longevity Award
14. United Nations Service Medal

And then that "Pocket Rocket" thing on the right - someone mentioned
what that was once, but I didn't get it <shrug>

I'll have a pic of the actual ribbons as soon as I scan in Tiger's AF
magazine table .....

Re: Ribbons and Insignia on Straker's blues

SHADO Librarian
Actually, a while back we had some USAF officer types on the list and they quite
honestly couldn't make heads or tails of the medal array on Straker's uniform and
figure what was on screen was cobbled together because it looked good. The medals
aren't in proper order and many of them have ribbon colors not associated with
anything the USAF has ever given out.
The list and array found in the Library is based on the conjectures of both the
Librarian and these officers concerning what Straker's career path would have had
to have been like. (Straker would have been too young by quite a number of years
to have earned any combat medals in Korea.)
BTW, that unidentified rocket-looking patch on his pocket is the Missileman patch -
denoting he had missile training .That was one of the clues that the people putting
together the medals had no clue - pilots rarely, if ever, wear missileman patches.
Planes and missiles are two entirely different career paths.
