Rumor: Simon Baker as Cmdr. Straker

Just saw this rumor -- don't know if it's true or where it came from --
about Simon Baker (The Mentalist, Red Planet) being considered for
the role of Commander Straker in the new UFO movie.   Anyone else
hear this (or start this) rumor?

Yes, that would appear to be where this rumor started
(online, at least)

Well, that seems much better casting decision then Joshua Jackson and Ali Larter...

I like the idea of Simon Baker for Straker. Watch the Mentalist and enjoy  
it. I think Simon Baker would bring the same charisma that Ed Bishop  bought
to the role.

I don't think I could ever take him seriously as Straker!  Fair or
not, whenever I see him I just think of a geeky kid from "Sixteen
Candles" / "The Breakfast Club" / "Weird Science".

But I still think he is the best guy. really all he wants to do prove to his friends he can get the girls. my two cents worth. Maybe we can get "Jake" to play Paul Foster.

But the difference (in my eyes) between Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Anthony Hall is the fact that Richard was an adult in both Macguyver and Stargate SG1, but we remember Michael mostly as a geeky teen, not an adult.  :-)  Not saying that Michael wouldn't make a good Straker, just saying it might take a bit of getting used to for many of us.
