SF: UK How bad writing changed a well pictured book

Christian J.
Hi All!

As much as I was delighted by the pictures in the book
„SF:UK How British Science Fiction changed the world" so
much was I disappointed by the writing of the author.
I read the passage about UFO and here is an excample:

------>
In the opening instalment, „Exposed", top USAAF pilot
Ed Straker (Bishop) is shot down by what he believes to
be a Unidentified Flying Object, only to find himself
under pressure from government figures who want Straker
to change his story. When the saucers turn up „en masse"
in episode two, cover stories seem a little redundant.
Now posing as a film executive at the Harlington-Straker
studios, the implausibly white-haired Straker leads the
fight back as SHADO's new boss, opting out of the fetching
string costumes and purple wigs adopted by some of his
female co-workers.
<------

You see what I mean? We all know that:
„Exposed" wasn't the opening instalment - that was
„Identified". Not Straker was the pilot who was shot down,
it was Foster and Foster wasn't shot down by the UFO. And
in the second episode there was no „en masse" turning up
of the saucers (the only episode with an „en masse" saucer
attack was „Reflections in the water" and that was near
the end of the series). And so on and so on.... Disappointing.
And is Straker really white-haired, Ladies? I always thought
that was rather blond :-)

Therefore I am not sure if I could recommend this book to someone.
Maybe if they sell it at a bargain? :-/

Oh, and I speak German (of course), English (a little bit :-) and
that's it! Hope my English isn't too bad for your listers (sometimes
I think that my english isn't understandable enough :-(
(And therefore no one likes me....*sob, sob* - no, only joking :-))

HUCH! *blush blush* That's nice of you, Amelia {{8-) *blush*

Sounds strange in German, like "death they are" ;-) We say
"Lebwohl" or "Auf Wiedersehen" but also "Servus", "Tschuess" or the
obviously non-German word "Ciao". And there excist many other
variations - but ...er... I fear that's all not UFO related...
*sweat* I think...
*Christian looking cautious around whether Marc is watching the
conversation, then moving quickly away... whispering:*
Ciao, Amelia! 8-)

Oh, shaddup, you silly twit! ;-)

I speak English. I've studied Latin, Italian and German, but can't
really carry on a conversation in any of those anymore. And the
smattering of Vulcan and Klingon that I know could get me shot .....

Really? Did I ever rate INVASION:UFO? And if I did, I would
have thought that I would have given it something worse than
a C-.... ;-)

Hey, you didn't mention the piccy's! Describe please. <g>
I just don't understand how any author could let his/her agent(s)
release a book with such a title, when it's obvious that they've
not even seen the stuff they're supposed to be writing about!

Didn't I? Let me take a closer looook... Hey, I mentioned the
piccy's in my message # 1947, Rob! :-) (see
http://www.egroups.com/message/SHADO/1947 )

Sadly this happens often.... Sometimes they copied the text of a
whole (older) book and presume that they've made their own research
(no joke!) }:-(
