Hi all,
I see that the 2nd SHADO jeep has been found in a junkyard in Spain. Scroll down in this discussion: http://www.retrorides.proboards.com/thread/20301/abandoned?page=336 The 1st SHADO jeep is currently owned and restored by ISOSHADO. I wonder if anyone will save this one? Marc |
Marc… here’s an article on this same vehicle: Also, the consensus on the Facebook boards seems to be that this is may be the 3rd vehicle from Doppelganger/Journey to the Far Side of the Sun and not used in UFO. Who knows for sure, though… what a _great_ find!! --Michael Blake From: Marc Martin [via SHADO] [mailto:[hidden email]] Hi all, If you reply to this email, your message will be added to the discussion below: http://shado-forum.com/SHADO-Jeep-2-found-in-Spain-tp4022865.html To start a new topic under SHADO, email [hidden email] |

I spent some time examining Doppelganger and UFO, and determined that there
were only 2 vehicles built, and this one has the UFO modifications on it. Marc On March 29, "Michael Blake [via SHADO]" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > Marc. here's an article on this same vehicle: > > http://maximummini.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/shado-jeep-found-in-scrap-yard.htm |
Well… that makes this even more valuable as a genuine UFO prop. Marc, what’s the tell-tale UFO modifications on the vehicle? Also on my UFO Facebook page, Ian Wingrove (who actually worked on the film DOPPELGANGER), confirmed that there were only 2 of these jeeps built (and indeed, you only see two of them on the screen at the same time). Well that settles that then. ;-) --Michael From: Marc Martin [via SHADO] [mailto:[hidden email]] On March 29, "Marc Martin [via SHADO]" <[hidden email]> wrote: If you reply to this email, your message will be added to the discussion below: http://shado-forum.com/SHADO-Jeep-2-found-in-Spain-tp4022865p4022869.html To start a new topic under SHADO, email [hidden email] |

The UFO vehicles have those ribbed side panels along the back, while on the Doppelganger versions are either open in the back or have "ambulance" panels. Also, along the sides towards the front (below the windscreen), you will see the Doppelganger versions has a long elliptical indented area with a small side headlight, while in the UFO versions this area has been smoothed over. However, in the UFO versions there is a much smaller elliptical chrome thingie that was added in front of this. In the junkyard vehicle, I can see the ribbed side panels, I can see the area that was smoothed over, and I see where the missing paint was in the elliptical chrome thingie was (even though it's no longer there). THANKS, Marc… I appreciate the detail… From: Marc Martin [via SHADO] [mailto:[hidden email]] On March 29, "Michael Blake [via SHADO]" <[hidden email]> wrote: If you reply to this email, your message will be added to the discussion below: http://shado-forum.com/SHADO-Jeep-2-found-in-Spain-tp4022865p4022870.html To start a new topic under SHADO, email [hidden email] |

Oh wait, I just took a look at the film climax, and there are 3 jeeps there, and it's not obviously a special effects trick. So maybe there were 3 for the film? But the one in the junkyard still has the UFO modifications in it...

Sure, although I'm sure someone could make screen captures pointing out the differences... :-) And here is the shot of the 3 jeeps in Doppelganger -- again, assuming this is not some kind of special effect (doesn't look like it): http://ufoseries.com/temp/jeeps.mp4 Marc |

Hi all,
Here are some more photos of that SHADO jeep discovered in the Canary islands. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.653712621342976.1073741825.169314393116137 Marc |

Hi all,
An update on the SHADO jeep that was recently discovered on Tenerife (one of the Canary Islands). The jeep has now been moved out of the scrapyard, so it is now safe from being destroyed -- and apparently it was scheduled to be destroyed within the month (!). The jeep is going to be shipped/transported to the UK, where it's new owner, James Winch, has plans to restore it. Apparently after UFO, the jeep was used in some movie that was filmed near the volcano on Tenerife. Don't know which movie. The person who had it in the scrapyard had purchased the jeep for its engine, which he transplanted into his Mini. Marc |
Hi
Just a little update on the SHADO jeep , things have moved on since getting her back to the uk . The front subframe has been rebuilt and fitted with new brakes , an engine has been rebuilt and is ready to go in . She is now sitting on her new minilite wheels and will be off to the restorers early in September ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Wow - that engine bay looks amazingly rust-free for a 45-year-old vehicle. How much time did it actually spend in the UK before migrating to the islands?
|
The engine was missing from the jeep , it did come with a part engine , but this was beyond repair . This engine is a unit I found and totally rebuilt

Nice photos of the jeep - it's looking better already!
And yes, it's my understanding that the previous owner bought the jeep for the sole reason that it had a Mini engine with low miles on it. And that engine was transplanted into another vehicle. So the rest of the jeep was just unwanted scrap to him... |

Did you intend to post an empty message, Jimbo? I get the impression we're missing some new photographs...
