SHADO @ seti

Greetings -

It's been quite awhile since I have posted here. Hello to all of you
I have not yet spoken with.

You may or may not know that the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial
Intelligence) Institute and UC Berkeley offer a program called SETI
@ Home whereby individuals may download a free screensaver program.
During downtime on your computer, the screensaver will process radio
frequencies recorded at Arecibo in Puerto Rico for signs of
intelligence and transmit the processed data back to SETI for
interpretation. Like all screensavers, this one only works when
you're not.

Once the screensaver is installed, SETI offers users the ability to
create and join teams to work at accumulating points. While the
points have no real value other than bragging rights, there are
hundreds, perhaps thousands of teams all crunching numbers to find
UFOs.

So, what does all this mean?

I've created a team just for us called SHADO. By downloading the
software and joining the team, we'll search for those pesky green
fluid buggers and flesh them out wherever they transmit. If you have
a decent computer, a dedicated Inet connection, and a deep envy for
Commander Straker's hair, you need to be on Team SHADO.

To download the screensaver and start your own search for UFO's,
visit this URL and be sure to use the link at the bottom of the page:

http://www.seti.org/site/pp.asp?c=ktJ2J9MMIsE&b=179086

Once you've done that, follow this link to set up an account with
SETI and join SHADO:

I look forward to seeing everyone scanning the heavens at SHADO.

Cheers,

lynxbob

A situation we may one day find ourselves in, gentlemen. So they discover earth. Abundant, fertile. Able to satisfy their needs. They look upon us not with animosity, but callousness. As we look upon our animals that we depend on for food. Yes, it appears they are driven by circumstance across a billion miles of space, driven on by the greatest force in the universe - survival."

It shouldn't be difficult, Rob. There are brief instructions for BOINC
5.2+ users on the group link URL I provided.

Of course, being a fan of UFO (and the X-Files), I think we have
already discovered intelligent life outside of Earth, and the
government is keeping that information from the public... :-)
