Security Matters

Lyn Chambers
I'm not sure of the steps i took (I have disabled history on my PC)
but i started at a google search that let me straight into the
message files here without signing in to yahoo. It even let me follow
an email link to one of the posts here.(My own I was just seeing how
far i could get and i am a member) I'm no hacker and I had no trouble
getting in.. I had to sign in to post this message but it makes you
wonder how secure Yahoo websites are and I could have posted without
signing in. it was going to let me. The usual group member sign was
not up. I know this isn't the pentagon but it shouldn't be that
easy ??

That's because that's the way I've set up SHADO -- I don't see
any reason to have this discussion group closed off from the
rest of the world. Quite the contrary -- I want UFO fans to
be able to find us!

However, people who haven't subscribed to the group cannot
post a message here. They can only read the messages.
There are far too many people sending junk mail to mailing
lists to open up the group to posting by anyone. Even once
someone subscribes they are automatically moderated to make
sure that no junk mail gets through.

I suspect the reason Yahoo was going to let you post a message
is because it already knew you were a member.

Remember Straker's little speech to Ford about security.
Rings here too.

One thing I find amusing -- two people mention the lack
of security in this discussion group. And yet, in
both cases, I had to approve these messages before they
were allowed to be posted on the list.

Yes and you still need a password to get into the files for the photos and
cartoons etc.

Gee and I forgot mine!

And if Yahoo had a way for me to disable the need for a password here,
I'd disable that too!
