Hi all,
It seems that the primary communications between fans and companies which release products are complaints. With all of the positive comments we've seen here about the new UFO DVD's, I think it'd be nice (for once) if a company received some nice comments about a quality product -- if to only show that *sometimes* fans are actually happy about *something* :-) So if you're happy (or not happy) with the new Carlton UFO DVD's, perhaps you'd like to take a moment and drop them a line? Here's the e-mail address to send your comments to: [hidden email] Marc |

I might give it a go! I think I prefer writing to Carlton's address as given on the DVDs,snail-mail though it may be. I have actually written to Carlton before to praise certain aspects of their products and never had the courtesy of a reply. Not that I expected one..... But I certainly agree that credit where credit is due and that we should tell Carlton what a good job they have done. It may spur them to greater things in the future after all :-) Simon |

Just be very careful what you say. Carlton Video are *very* twitchy about people knowing who does their work for them. A couple of people wrote in to them demanding that they use the BBC to remaster Space:1999 and it caused one hell of a shitstorm. Carlton had no idea that there were actually people out there discussing their releases and with technical appreciation of them too! These letters jeopardised the BBCs involvement in the remastering work, put a number of BBC staff's jobs on the line (mine included) until a full investigation was carried out and resulted in one Carlton staff member (Jaz) being sacked. So, praise by all means, but please don't make them think you have any more knowledge of their operation than any other member of the public... Steve |

It's amazing how things can backfire on you -- a year ago we had an open communication line between the fans and Carlton Video and the folks who were remastering the videos, but a few complaining fans caused good people to be fired, and shut down all lines of further communication between the fans and the people working on the videos. There are certainly things I'd love to know about these new UFO videos, but I don't want to jeopardize anyone's job (or the quality of future Carlton releases) in doing so! Marc |

Good grief. The sad thing of course is that - from the evidence of my DVDs - BBC Resources have done by far the highest quality work on their various Carlton DVDs than the other company(companies?) used. I know the name of the other one but I shall say nothing based on what Steve has just said..... To be honest I don't think Carlton care much what we think....even if the comments are good... Simon |
