Having watched UFO as a child in the early 70s, and it becoming one of
my all time favourite programmes, I have been catching up with the
recent run on ITV4. I have to say I still think that it is one of the
best crafted Science fiction programmes ever produced, and watching it
again is a real treat.
Being a resident of the general Berks / Bucks area, I'm used to seeing
local locations featuring in TV and film, due to the proximity of
Pinewood, Bray studios etc.
In the episode 'ESP' I recognised the use of the 'Sara Lee'factory in
Slough as the hospital / clinic. I've since found that the use of this
location is quite well documented on various websites, but I was
intrigued with the background traffic in these scenes. If you look
closely you can see the traffic on the A4 driving on the left! There is
also a MkII Cortina parked along at the end of the wall. I'm sure in
the world of 1980s Britain as visualised in UFO, a 10 year old Ford
Cortina should have been commonplace, but it makes me wonder how the
Government of the day managed to get everyone to drive on the right! Oh
well, just a mischievous thought!
