I'd personally be >really interested to know why you dislike it. Since you insist, James, I'll tell you. Because David Lane did TOO good a job making me hate those two in the beginning of the episode, which makes watching the rest of the episode almost unbearable! Call me a prude, if you will, but nothing is more guaranteed to make me turn a show or a movie off than adultery. It's a personal bias, you see. Now if there had been any redeeming qualities in those two, I may have reconsidered my opinion. But he made them all too real. And despicable! Actually, my favorite scene in the episode is when Straker vents my feelings for me by telling his men to "get them out of here!" Great line! Straker, somehow it's always about you.

Thanks Denise .. so your dislike isn't actually an expression of criticism toward the episode per se but rather discomfort with the subject matter. I see what you mean, and I have similar feelings myself about 'Survival' - which is one of the better episodes in my view, yet in another sense one of my least favourite, since I find it really uncomfortable to watch because of the cold-blooded ending. Some of the things that I appreciate about The Square Triangle are - the way the Alien is shown to be vulnerable, firstly when being attacked by a dog and secondly when being shot dead. A nice contrast to the usual sci-fi treatment of all-conquering alien invaders. Secondly, the script doesn't suffer from the inconsistencies and ill-considered logic that plague some of the other scripts - it's a bit of a departure from the usual UFO style, but quite solid and well thought out. Not great UFO, but a very watchable episode (personal feelings about infidelity allowing!). Thirdly as others have mentioned, the ending in the graveyard is so very dark and cold. Very effective.
