I mentioned a few posts ago that I didn't reckon UFO had a fanbase of
sufficient size to influence studios and networks, thinking in terms of the successes of the Farscape and Firefly fans. Does anyone - and I suppose I mean you, Marc Martin :) - have an informed (though by what??) idea of how many fans UFO has worldwide? I've no feel for how many DVD sets have sold for instance, which might give a guide - even I gather they've still not been released in Austrialia... Carly |

But I'm sure that it's nowhere near the needed amount to support a movie/TV series revival (unless, of course, the project is driven by a fan who doesn't care about making a profit). I remember when that Australian proposal was made to create a new sequel TV series to UFO. They asked for letters from the fans to show the "huge" fan base. In the end, they only got about 30 - 50 letters! :-( But yes, I suppose that the sales figures for the DVD sets or Chris Bentley's "Complete Book of UFO" would helpful to estimate the size of the fan base. But I don't know what these numbers are... Marc |
But how would the sales for the books and DVDs correlate to how many fans there are of UFO? A rough rule of thumb could be said to be one book sold = one fan, or one DVD sold = one fan. As I said, it'd be a rough rule of thumb and not really accurate, as if the same person bought the book from one place, then any number of DVDs from elsewhere, it'd give a false figure.

Coming out of lurking....here is a fan who bought both DVD sets the instant they became available, but still haven't gotten around to buying the "Complete Book of UFO" as yet. Probably will however....
