Spacesuit colors in THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT

Marc Martin

Hey, someone pointed out something odd... on the UFO DVDs, in the episode THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT, Lt. Ellis and Harrington put on spacesuits near the end of the episode.  There seems to be a blooper here, as the spacesuit colors alternate between yellow and grey.

However, on the UFO Blu-rays, the spacesuits are ALWAYS grey.  And this is on ALL the Blu-rays, Japan, German, and UK.

This is somewhat odd, as we know that these spacesuits are supposed to be yellow, so how did they ever become grey in some of the shots on the DVDs, and ALL of the shots in the Blu-rays?

Does anyone know what color they were on video releases prior to the DVDs?  Like on VHS?  Laser?

I recall pointing this out about the DVDs a few years ago.  Wish I could recall the explanation that someone had come up with.  :(

I just went back and scanned through a few of the episodes I have, and the suits themselves are grey, but they have yellow helmets and other accessories.

In what format?  *sigh*  The suits themselves are SILVER.  We aren't referring to the suits (the subject line is a misnomer), but the helmets and accessories.  They change from yellow to grey on the suits the moonbase girls are wearing in THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT.

Re: Spacesuit colors in THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT

Didn't notice that previously. Yeah, the view from the back of the suits, they look grey, but look yellow from the front.

(And the format is "on my media server" :-) They were originally ripped from a PAL DVD, but I don't have the DVDs handy to let you know details on them, they're packed away in the basement somewhere.)

Re: Spacesuit colors in THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT

Clare Cross
I have always assumed that this was down to some kind of error in the way the film was processed.  I have yet to watch the episode in question on the new Blu-ray but shall do so ASAP.  I'll admit that I always found those shots 'odd' and can never understand fully how and why it happened or was then left in.

Re: Spacesuit colors in THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT

Griff
I have a complete set of the UFO VHS tapes in storage, but from memory I am fairly certain the VHS Tape version of 'The Responsibility Seat' also has this strange coloration artifact as well, in fact I am pretty sure it is there on the VHS. I have always meant to do a VHS to digital transfer, but never had the time....

Personally, I must admit I think the white 'version' of the spacesuits look pretty cool though especially on the Moonbase Control Sphere operatives - kind of matches their normal and is in keeping with their uniform/outfits.
