Happy St George's Day. I do have one question being from the USA, what is St George's Day?

St. George is the patron saint of England and so it marks him. However no real
holiday just business as usual. Most odd. Wales has their own patron saint, Rob and he's called St. David, not St. George. :)

Unfortunately our government (shamefully) doesn't see fit to give us a public/bank holiday like the Irish (St. Patricks day) and Scots (St. Andrews day) get! However, Wales doesn't get a day off on their National Day (St. Georges day) either. Thank you, for the super mini history lesson. Right now I can't think of any days like that here in the US.

Hi all,
If I might interrupt the conversion on "St George's Day", which I initially thought might have had something to do with George Sewell... :-) Not too long ago, I was obsessing on the character name that someone had given to Andrea Allan's UFO moonbase operative character... Well yesterday, I saw a post on Facebook that claimed that Anouska Hempel's UFO character name was "Catherine Scott". Since that was news to me, I thought I'd investigate. First off, OFFICIALLY, Anouska's character has no name, as nobody ever called her by name in the series, and in the end credits it was always pretty generic ("Skydiver Operative", "SHADO Radio Operator"). However, I did see that the SHADO Library and THE COMPLETE BOOK OF UFO gave her the name "Catherine Scott", while IMDB gave her the name "Tamara Paulson" (!) So I went looking through my UFO scripts -- both those that have been transcribed and posted online, and those that haven't. What I found was this: -- in the original script for REFLECTIONS IN THE WATER, Anouska's character was named SYLVIA HOWELL, indicating that this part was meant for Georgina Moon (as she had always played the part named Sylvia Howell in the scripts). However, in the change pages (updates) of that script, the name was changed to "Catherine Scott". So that would appear to be the origin of the one name. -- in the script for THE MAN WHO CAME BACK, her part is identified as "Girl Operator" -- in the script for MINDBENDER, her part is named "Pauline". -- in the original script for THE LONG SLEEP, her character isn't in the script at all, but in the change pages her part is identified as "Operative". So there's one mystery solved. I think I'll just stick to considering her character as having no name, since there are no two scripts that agree on a single name. Marc |
Hi Marc,
Wow, that's a dedicated piece of detective work... That's what I love about UFO - even with what 44 years since the start - we're still discovering new things about it. But, that has always been one of UFO's greatest strengths... what was never explained, it leaves so much room for the imagination. Thanks for the heads up! My suspicion is that the Tamara Paulson name is from a piece of Fanfiction -
in fact I'm 99.9% sure of that. (Which would merely prove that IMDB doesn't do their homework when adding things.) I vaguely recall changing the character's name in the Library to Catharine Scott after seeing the character's name as that in the UFO book. (Of course, that then begs the question of where Chris Bentley got it.) _____ From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of griffwason Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2013 9:00 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Anouska Hempel's UFO character Hi Marc, Wow, that's a dedicated piece of detective work... IMDB is a fan supported website. There is no organization behind it that verifies information on their website. Anyone can add information, even false information, and no one will know the difference. I found a error and reported it, and they fixed it. I believe the group owner, Marc, is responsible for the UFO info on IMDB.
For the most part, IMDB is a good reference, but like the saying goes, you cant believe everything you read on the web. I am sorry you have a name doppelganger in the UFO universe. I am also sorry, I also made a mistake, It wasn’t about UFO, but I read a mini biography on Ed Bishop, it said this

But I never posted that Ed Bishop bio on IMDB. It looks like someone took some biographical information from my ufoseries.com site and posted it to IMDB, then credited me as the author... Marc |
Sometimes when you write a email, the mood of the email can be mis-understood. My original email was meant to be a little light hearted, reading it, it didn’t sound like it should have. I apologized to Marc privately and felt a need to do it publicly too. I am sorry.
As far as one website stealing content from another, even though credit is given, without the author giving permission. It is still wrong. I know if content from my website found its way to another, which I have no control over, I would not be very happy. Glad I was able to bring this to your attention. Although at this point, I'm used to seeing stuff from ufoseries.com appearing elsewhere without anyone asking for permission. I see it on a daily basis on Facebook... it's not really a problem, as it's mostly UFO publicity photos that I don't own the copyright to anyway... Speaking of which, over the past couple months I've added some new UFO publicity photos to ufoseries.com, so if you haven't checked this out lately, you might want to take a look at the new stuff (all the new stuff is at the top): http://ufoseries.com/publicity Marc |
