With Sky Diver's atomic reactor shut down and the water pumps slowing to a crawl emptying the escape hatch, Straker and the remaining crew are faced with a long wait to be saved. Instead of waiting for the pumps to empty the hatch, could the hatch door be simply opened and let the water from it into the sub? The next crew members could then enter and shut the door before repeating the process This would mean the hatch would empty in seconds rather than hours. Although this would take away some of the drama, and the special effects crew would probably be faced with a big job providing all that water. Also when Sky Diver is finally blasted free of the ledge, where would these explosives be put to avoid blowing up the occupants? Kevin. |
That's a good point Kevin and I have to admit that that thought ran through my mind as well. The only thing I could think of was that maybe you would be afraid of the water shorting out the electrics and then the door not opening again. I also wondered why when at the end and they were running out of air they didn't find some scuba gear and use that as extra oxygen to survive. Also, being on a ledge like that, once all that weight in water runs loose down the interior of the sub, might it not possibly shift the weight of the sub enough to tilt it over the edge of a cliff, if in the right direction?.... If the door opened in toward the chamber, you wouldn't be able to force it open against the weight of water. Even Straker can't lift a ton. JAT, Dave H |

Karen, I have not seen that episode lately but I would hazard a guess that they gave most of the diving gear to the first people who evacuated the ship. I think they gave the last of the oxygen to Mina but she got stuck in the sub with Straker anyway. It may have been done off camera that they emptied the oxygen containers first. It would have taken all the drama out of the situation.

Well this is true but maybe it would have been more realistic if the producers had included a little snippet of them releasing the oxygen. I sort of watch that episode and in my brain I'm thinking "go for the scuba tanks guys". But you're right everything for drama and I have to admit as a kid I never gave it a second thought. I'm really enjoying the series even more the second time around because now I'm paying attention to all of the details that went into production whereas when I was a kid I just enjoyed the action. --- In [hidden email], legg bryan <bslwrsf@y...> wrote: > Karen, I have not seen that episode lately but I would hazard a guess that they gave most of the diving gear to the first people who evacuated the ship.
