I wonder: why did the aliens in Sub Smash and Reflections attaked civil vessels like the Kingston? By doing so their only achivement was to alert SHADO and bringing Sky Diver to investigate. That can only mean trouble for them and the encounters were, on the other hand, not accidents. In both cases the UFOs send special sub ships to destroy the vessels. Another thing. How, in Relflections, did Straker and Foster get inside, and later outside, the dome? We saw them pushing the membrane of the dome, it opens, water spills and then they are inside. By the pressure of the water that deep when they pushed the whole dome would become filled with water. And, in the take after the "openning" of the dome we see Straker and Foster but no water on the floor. That´s weird. Isn´t it? --------------------------------- [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
In Reflections - the membrane was meant to be self sealing. Straker and Foster remarked on this fact - briefly. As for attacking civilian vessels, their purpose was usually to contaminate say the atmosphere/water etc (when those civilian vessels were carrying nuclear waste etc) but I often wonder what the point of that was since if they killed all life on Earth they wouldn't have any 'useful' bodies from which to harvest organs ... they'd all be radioactive... just a thought.... In "Sub-Smash" Straker and Freeman talk about the aliens attacking shipping because they can harvest the bodies after attacking the ships. Nick |

I've often thought that there might be another group of aliens who disagree with stealing spare parts from us, and thusly take the drastic action of eliminating the supply - permanently if possible. Just as there are many opposing factions on this planet, would it not be the case on the Alien's homeworld? We saw evidence in Question of Priorities, when an alien tried to defect to SHADO.

Hmm, perhaps, but I tend to think that there must have been some dissenters in the alien race. They can't all have been in favour of coming to Earth and harvesting the human race. Here on earth we have animal rights protestors who seek to prevent experiments and vivisection on helpless animals, sometimes using extreme measures to put across their point of view. Is it not feasible that amongst the aliens there would be groups of them with a similar philosophy? It's just that within the 26 episodes made, we never saw such a thing.

Another theory: Perhaps there is group of aliens, some hardcore hawks, who believe that, eventually, SHADO could bring the war to their home planet. If that happens, and they are a dying species, then they´ll be in the greatest of perils. We saw that SHADO once sent a satelite (In "Close Up") to determine position and details of the alien planet. If SHADO can carry the war to their planet it´s logical that some aliens would want to destroy humankind and abort the potential threat. That´s probably the reason for the chapter "Destruction", and the reason why there appears to be some distent between aliens who fight between themselves. But, on the otherhand, this doesn´t explain the attacks against the civilian merchant ships that doesn´t carry any dangerous materials. --- In [hidden email], MICK DICKENS wrote: > Hmm, perhaps, but I tend to think that there must have been some dissenters in the alien race.
