THE FUTURE WAS FANASTIC - 2 DVD Special Collectors Edition

Hi all,

Just got word from Jeff Smart that there is a new, 2-DVD edition of his video documentary THE FUTURE WAS FANTASTIC, which is now available on eBay:

Some comments from Jeff:

 "For UFO fans there’s much to see on the 2nd extras disk :

The full interview with director Ken Turner talking about UFO, with specific reference to his classic ep “Mindbender”.

We also see the amazing Phil Rae model collection featuring items from UFO including Sky 1 and the large Interceptor.

From Space 1999 we see the 44 inch eagle and both scales of Hawk ( …including a dead one…you’ll see)

Other models are from Captain Scarlet, Space Police, The Investigator, and from Stingray we see Reg Hill’s original table top Stingray..Stand by for Action!

Also by way of tribute to the amazing talent of Ed Bishop, I’ve included some wonderful studio out-takes of Ed being Ed, he’s a very funny guy and this proves it.

I very much hope you enjoy this blast from the past, the future really was… fantastic!"

Hi,

I bought a few of the original DVD's, and they were defitinely written.

Economically, unless you're selling a few thousand upwards, it wouldn't make financial sense to have them 'pressed'... There are other DVD/Blu-ray production techniques now that have been developed. But, now that CD, DVD, and even Blu-ray sales have started to fall through the floor, logically it'll all end up downloads...

I asked Jeff for some technical details on the discs:

  -- region free DVDs
  -- PAL (25 fps)
  -- They are burned, but being duplicated at a professional duplication facility
      (with "proper face graphics, lacquer sealed etc.")

Here's an update from Jeff Smart on the new "Future Was Fantastic" DVDs:

Just to remind anyone who hasn't yet ordered a copy of the 2 disk set of "The Future Was Fantastic".
The disks sets are about to go off to be duplicated and printed in the next few days (in time for the release on 8th May)!

If there's anyone who still wants to order a copy (and has been holding out until the last moment) try to get your order in before 4th of May as this will be the cut off date that will still guarantee you a disk set.
Anytime after that I may not have enough extra copies printed up to cover any last minute sales surges.

Those that have already ordered and paid for your sets, the disks will be with you by the 8th/9th in the UK,
and will be posted out to overseas destinations on those dates..
I hope the disks will bring back a lot of memories of the special people involved ( especially Mike Billington and Ed Bishop.)
