So Straker says in episode one..."Signs of hereditary sterility are
evident" in the aliens. This apparently means that Mom and Dad alien were sterile and passed it on to junior? Ha ha! If their ships had laser blaster type beams why did they use machine guns on the ground? Seriously,I did enjoy the mystery of keeping info about them a little vague.Wonder what might have happened if there was a second season.Anyone else think UFO would make a good movie nowadays(updated a bit)....? Someone did come up with a reasonable explanation for this a while ago.. it escapes me now though, I admit! > If their ships had laser blaster type beams why did they use machine > guns on the ground? > That's easy - presumably the death-ray type weapons used a large quantity of power, and had to feed off the powerplant of the UFO. I like the fact that they used traditional projectile small arms - it's a refreshing change from the lasers we see in every other sci-fi series. But why did they wear the bright red suits? They always seemed to land in the woods somewhere. Green camouflage would have been a better choice .. James |

In the UFO stories in the Countdown and TV Action comics, alien rifles are shown firing what looks like a ray rather than bullets, and in at least one story (The Snatch) they are explicitly called rayguns. > But why did they wear the bright red suits? Likely the aliens had had interstellar space travel for such a long time that they were mentally stuck in a stasis of sticking to the same kit and tactics. |

Hereditary Sterility. Nice one! Still there's always cloning. Perhaps that
liquid in their helmets was some form of nutrient bath. As for the movie, oh yes!!! Today's technology would make that beautiful. Actually, hereditary sterility would be best described as hereditary profound
infertility - only a few aliens are capable of breeding at all. The one autopsied by SHADO showed evidence he were incapable of breeding and it did not appear to chemically or surgically induced. Since the specimen in question was male, the testes were probably either malformed or showed little evidence of being capable of producing sperm. Blood sex hormone levels were too low to measure. Since the specimen was human enough for the autopsy to give sensible results, human baselines gave results indicating hereditary sterility. [hidden email] wrote: > Hereditary Sterility. Nice one! I suspect it was probably a bit of a fashion statement - remember it was the late 60's and bright colours were the fashion. Nothing wrong with having fashion conscious aliens - very groovy!! If you wonder why you seem to have missed Space Precinct's first episode, i.e.
the episode that sets the scene and says who everybody is, that is because it was written (called "Demeter City"), but it was never filmed. The latest issue of the FAB Magazine explains this and is serializing its script. It was going to be filmed after several ordinary episodes, but the shareholders started baying the producer's heels to get some episodes on TV, before "Demeter City" could be filmed. And it would have been expensive in special film sets. |
