Hi all,
I've received the six German UFO DVDs this weekend and have watched
them partially. In my opinion it is *not* very well done. The layout
(or packaging) remembers me of the DVDs from American "Alpha Video" (
www.oldies.com ), rather poorly made (according to the cover it is
made in EU 2003). They mention the English and the American first
broadcast date but not the German one. The DVDs are numbered in the
following order:
0010 = The Cat with ten Lives
0011 = Conflict
0012 = Exposed
0013 = Psychobombs
0014 = The responsibility Seat
0015 = Survival
Yes, it is in German and English and the picture quality is good
(almost like the English/American DVDs) but that's it.
The menu is rather simple; you can choose to start the episode, the
chapter menu (5 chapters) or a preview of the other five episodes but
there is no option for the audio settings. So you have to change the
language by pressing the audio button during the episode - not very
professional.
The episodes start with the 21st Century logo (like in the original
version) and have the English episode title (eg. "Survival" instead
of "Die Begegnung"); they end with the English credits also.
Worst thing is, that the dubbing isn't always correct! The German
dubbing is a little bit quicker than the picture and they've
corrected this from time to time (this also happens with the previews
which are BTW 6 1/2 minutes each). It seems like they've used the
material from the American DVDs (which is presented with 24
frames/sec) and added the German dubbing from the TV (which is 25
frames/sec) so they get out of sync after some time and try to
correct it from time to time. And that's horrible!
The burial scene from SURVIVAL - which was cut from the German
version - is also cut here.
Speaking of the previews: they are not very informative and are put
together very unkindly. Sometimes they give away the ending (like in
SURVIVAL and EXPOSED).
BTW, as you all know there is no main title at the beginning of THE
PSYCHOBOMBS and this is also the case with the DVD, you can only
watch the 21st Century logo but you can hear in the German dubbing
the end of the title music!
My conclusion: these DVDs are only for people who speak German and
don't have a video recording from the TV of these episodes and only
if they can purchase it for a bargain. Otherwise buy the English or
wait for a German release.
