The Moon Mobiles "hovering"

Hi All,

I just got the following e-mail about the Moon Mobiles strange
ability to "hover" above the lunar surface....

********************************************************************

I chatted to a friend about this, and he proposed the idea that the
"hoppers" use something like a controlled stream of gas (helium, hydrogen,
argon maybe..possibly even halogen) to lift the hopper and move it
forward...in Moon terms weight isn't a problem, mass and inertia are, so the
idea of using gas jets to lift weights isn't all that far fetched.

Two or three jets in tandem series on the belly, and a small reaction motor
at the back for forward momentum. As there is no air and therefore no
friction, an object acted upon by a force will continue in motion unless
acted upon by an opposing force...so in theory the concept is possible.

Also, with the advent of "ducted" technology the jets could be rotary fans,
with louvres to control
force and direction( the V22 Osprey is a case in point, variable geometry
wings capable of allowing the craft to lift like a chopper or fly forward in
a conventional manner.)

Comments???

Brendan

Way too expensive. Maybe N2.

Are you sure? I took a hoover apart once and it definitely
had a fan somewhere.

James dear, please give such a message a "don't drink coffee while reading
this" warning.
