"The Responsibility Seat"

Marc Martin
Administrator
Hi all,

Well, one day to go before I leave for Italy.. I guess I better start
packing! :-)

While I'm gone, Bill Cotter <[hidden email]> has volunteered
to be in "The Responsibility Seat", and keep SHADO running smoothly.
Be kind!

Since Bill doesn't post much on SHADO, I just thought I'd point out
that he must be one of the most longtime members we have here -- he
was on FAB-UFO from the beginning, and he was even participating in
online service UFO discussion groups before there was an Internet
discussion group!

Thanks for doing this Bill, and good luck! :-)

Thanks, Marc - I'll do my best to keep the lights on and the computer
tapes spinning while you're away!

I think I know how Alec Freeman felt. Matter of fact, it's time for a
drink in his honor!

Really? How was there an online discussion group before the Internet???
Am I missing something here?

There were UFO discussions on AOL (As well as Space 1999) back in 1994 or
1995 (My years get fuzzy) when I first signed onto the Internet. AOL had
an areas for Sci Fi and bulletin boards. Also the SFLOVERs list were
running then and I'm sure they had at least an episode guide. There must
have been similar activity on Compuserv ,Prodigy and GEnie. In fact GEnie
had a very active SF and Sci Fi forum that lasted for years until the
company was bought out.

I remember where the Space 1999 activity was back then, there were a few
ftp sites and I had a friend with a college account and I would use LYNX to
shuffle around the internet a bit. I think I found out about the UFO list
(On PIPEX??? Right?) through the Space 1999 resources I was looking at back
then. I didn't really document it too much though. I do have some old
text files on a zip disk somewhere and i remember we were all thrilled UFO
was playing on the Sci Fi channel.

But back to the question, there were UFO related bulletin board topics
before there were listserv email lists.

Hi all!

Just like Straker... I thought I'd check in to see
how things are going... from Rome! A little too
much traffic pollution here for me, but we'll be
heading off to the countryside soon enough...

Ciao!
