Hi Marc, Marty and all!
Well, fact is that nobody of us *really* knows what Barry Gray would have done if he would have had the possibility to release the UFO soundtrack on LP in his lifetime. I can't believe that it was Barry's intention that we should hear UFO in mono, only because he handled out a mono tape to the fans. I'd rather believe he left open the possibility to provide us with a stereo soundtrack on a possible LP (which never happens). OK, these are only my two cents, I know. But I don't believe that Barry would resist a stereo soundtrack. Also I can't imagine that Fanderson would treat the soundtrack of Barry *disrespectful*. After all, they are real Fans too :-) And because that these guys are not identical to the composer doesn't mean that they are not talented. Anyway, sadly, Barry is dead, therefore we can't ask him anymore :-( As far as I am concerned I'm not interested in a mono soundtrack of UFO. This soundtrack is as Marc has stated from time to time available on eBay. Instead, I can't wait to hear the incidental music of UFO in stereo for the first time :-) And speaking of the SPACE: 1999 CDs from Fanderson: in most cases I can't hear a divergence to the mono soundtrack of the show. In fact, I am very pleased with these two double CDs. Speaking of mono: I'm a fan of both Derek Flint movies. These movies were always shown on TV in mono and I've heard the music very often (taped it from the TV with a microphone *good* old times :-). Later I was able to get the soundtrack LP which is in stereo and I was impressed by the stereo mix. Of course, there were a few parts of the soundtrack which didn't sound *right* to me, but mostly because I hadn't heard some instruments on the mono track properly so far. The bigger problem I had was the obviously a little bit *lower* speed of the music, which is a result of speeding up a movie from 24 fps to 25 fps on telly. But I got used to it. Conclusion: I prefer the stereo mix of a show to the mono mix (if it is done close to perfect at least) so I can't wait to get the Fanderson release. If someone (like Marty) is interested in the mono mix, well, a mono soundtrack already exists (take a look at eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922514950 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1582319060 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922515005 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922514923 ) I don't think that Fanderson would make a 4 CD set with a stereo *and* a mono version of the soundtrack only to please a few members. And I think that the majority of the (buying) members would be more interested in a really complete soundtrack of the series without any missing cues instead :-) Christian (And sorry, if their are some grammar mistakes :-) |
