Jerry here I have been watching UFO in Hi Deff on the familyroom HD. Anyway I made a small copy of the Opening of UFO in widescreen. If people would like to see the diff I could post a copy in real Media but it is like 14 megs in size. Let me know if it would be ok. Thank You Jerry |

Let me know if it would be ok. There may be a file size limitation on uploading files to YahooGroups, and it may be less than 14 megs. But you can certainly give it a try! If that doesn't work, perhaps you could upload it somewhere else... or possibly email it to me and I could upload it to my website? (but again, either yours or my email may object to a 14 meg file!) I suppose as a last resort you could postal mail it to me on a CD-R... I'm curious how did you capture the opening? With a camcorder pointed at the screen? Thanks! Marc |
Marc,
Large files can be ftp'd for free at http://www.yousendit.com. I use it quite a bit, very easy and spam free. The problem is that UFO was designed and shot for the screen ratio of 1.37:1. High definition is 1.77:1, so the image has to be cropped at the top and bottom, and this goes against the intentions of the film makers. It ought to be watched pillar-boxed in high definition; meaning it has black bars on either side of the frame. Cropping the images to fit the newer TV ratio is as bad as cropping a widescreen feature film.

Also, according to the rumors I'm hearing, Granada did NOT commission a pillarboxed version of UFO in high definition, so the only high definition version of UFO available right now has the top and bottom cropped off the screen... :-/ Marc |
Sadly, that is the, money men's influence and the ignorant public clamoring for images to fill their screen.
