Thunderbirds

Veres, Mary
I never saw the Thunderbirds as a kid so I don't really have any interest in
it as I do UFO, but I noticed many people on this list do have an interest in
the show.  This week's Entertainment Weekly put out their anual IT list.  The
IT list "is a collection of the 100 creative types whose work sparks passion
among the EW staff".

IT Geek Revival
The Thunderbirds
Age 38 Why It? In 1965, a futuristic family of rescue fliers and their five
emergency vehicles captured the imagination of pint-size pilots everywhere.
The 32-episode TV series also introduced the world to "Supermarionation," a
meticulous form of pupetry that employs moving eyes and electonically
controlled mouths.  Now the show, which has already spawned the films
"Thunderbirds Are Go" and "Thunderbird 6", is being turned into a live-action
feature.  Exit the Pupet Master Gerry Anderson, 74, creator of 17 sci-fi TV
shows including "Supercar" and "Space:1999", passed on participating in the
film adaptation.  On seeing Lady Penelope's pink Rolls-Royce (a six-wheeler
outfitted with cannons and a hydrofoil), he declared it a "monstrosity."
Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Puppetry  Matt Stone and Trey Parker are
toying with a big-screen homage to Anderson starring a cast of marionettes.
Next Anderson is consulting on an updated Thunderbirds TV series, and is
remaking his "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" using advanced CGI, a
process he's dubbed "Hypermarionation."
