Well, it seems that 2010 didn't have as much UFO activity as I had expected at the beginning of the year. Back then, I thought that we'd all be hearing lots about the new UFO movie remake, and also that it would actually be filming by now. And as such, I was wondering where I was going to find the time to keep my UFO website updated with all that was going on. :-)
But instead, we heard very little about the UFO movie, and my website didn't get updated much either. However, we did have some UFO fan activity -- our UFO fan fiction writers were quite prolific this year, and there was an ISOSHADO convention (guest Gary Raymond) and a Fanderson convention, and of course we had a few issues of Fanderson's FAB magazine and also ANDERSONIC. And we also got to hear something new about Ayshea Brough. (What else am I missing?) I wonder what will be in store for UFO fans in 2011? Marc |
2010.
What do I say. Well, it was my first full year of being a `real' UFO fan. I started drawing, continued to develop my writing, started my website, joined the Shado Writers' Forum and attended my first ever Anderson Convention. But I also made new friends, learned a LOT about writing GOOD `canon' fanfic and began to really appreciate the work that goes into organising and maintaining a site such as this one or the SHADO Library. So, my sincere thanks to Marc for the superb work he does to keep us all informed and up-to-date on UFO. I don't pretend to be computer literate , but I do have some idea of the sheer amount of work that must go into upkeeping a site such as the UFO home page. I am still finding new things on his site, still exploring all the trememdous stuff he has worked so hard to put there for us to enjoy. There is another site that gets far too little praise as well; the `SHADO Library'. Superbly maintained by the SHADO Librarian. And how many of us actually consider dropping the odd word of praise to either Marc or Deborah? Too few I think. If we don't appreciate the work that goes into keeping UFO alive in our minds, then we face the possibility that people will simply give up. All it needs is that one word of praise, of appreciation, of thanks. It doesn't take much, just a ` Thanks for all your hard work.' Even a smiley face will do. Although there is nothing more wonderful than getting a positive comment! So. Marc, Deborah, from me; one of the very few UFO writers still out there, still trying to keep the true spirit of the series alive in my stories; Thankyou for all your hard work, for the hours that you have put into building and maintaining your sites with such efficiency. I know how much hard work goes into moderating and updating your sites. I appreciate all your work. I hope more people take this opportunity to express their thanks. UFO fans are, regrettably, notorious for their reticence. Perhaps we should all make a New Year's Resolution to be a little more appreciative of those people who work so hard to keep those wonderful memories of SHADO and all those superb actors alive in our thoughts. Maybe once a month? A quick line of praise? It's not as if it cost us anything does it? And it might just make the difference. I don't want to click on my `UFO Homepage' or `SHADO Library' icon one day to find that they no longer exist, because no one really cares enough to say 'Thanks..A great job!'. Do you? And thanks to you, Deborah, ISOSHADO, Fanderson, Andersonic, etc. who also are all working hard on keeping UFO "alive". It's true it's been rather quiet here on SHADO in 2010. Especially if you compare the group to how it was in the late 1990s. Of course, I always figured that UFO fandom would "die off" eventually, and actually it has lasted a lot longer than I originally thought. So we should definitely encourage all current/future activity, else there may not be any. Of course, if that UFO movie ever gets made, or UFO is released on Blu-ray, we *should* (in theory) get a boost in interest/activity. Although that's just theory, as I recall the decline in UFO fan activity started about the same time UFO was released on DVD. Marc |

Your work is greatly appreciated! I only wish I had more free time to contribute more, peruse the library and read some of the publications/books I have amassed. Maybe in retirement or perhaps a conveniently timed broken arm ;-) Thank you to all of those who have dedicated their time, skill and creativity to "UFO" and Gerry Anderson and especially to Marc, Fanderson, Isoshado and the Shado Library for providing the fans with a place to connect and share thoughts! Happy 2011 everyone! Lorraine |

Marc if you have checked out the fanderson forum, you will have seen a section on the convention that you mention, and references to the alien costume that I wore........
