Yes, and where I was in the USA, we also saw reruns of UFO in the early/mid/late 1970s.  I don't recall seeing reruns of the puppet shows during those years, although maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

UFO was certainly shown by ATV - inevitably I suppose - in September 1970, which is where the September 16th 1970 debut date comes from.

Hi Clare

I wonder what regions would ATV cover when it started airing UFO in Sept 1970 (as you said in your post that the Southern & London regions only started receiving UFO in early to late 1971)?

Midlands, the Birmingham area basically.  And yet this hardly makes up for the fact that London, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool and their environs probably didn't see it until 71.

I think the Fanderson shop must be playing up or something, because I’m unable to order it.

Re: UFO ANNUAL 1972

Only available to Fanderson members.  I understand that it is selling very well indeed and was being purchased from the moment it went live at midnight.

At only £17.50 (UK), it's a bargain!  I thought it would be £20.  Frankly, it would be worth joining Fanderson just to buy this... especially if you consider that someone else was recently selling an appallingly awful 50th anniversary UFO poster for about £15.  That's fifteen quid for a badly designed sheet of paper!  I have seen this annual already and I can honestly say that it's the closest thing to a genuine 1972 UFO Annual that we'll ever get.  The attention to detail is incredible and the design and layout looks amazing.  The writing also mirrors the style of an early 1970's annual.

If you're interested in buying it, I don't think you should hang about too long!  And yes... I've bought two!

This post was updated on .
The UFO Annual has landed!

On the whole, the book is an incredible labour of love and recreates the feel of the early '70s annuals perfectly.  There is, however, one very small 'deliberate mistake' in there, which, I believe, was added to give it an extra air of authenticity (look at all the inaccuracies in the 1971 UFO Annual!) and to ensure that this book is unique unto itself.    It is, in my humble opinion, well worth the money and I hope we'll all enjoy being transported back in time almost 50 years!  Here are some more pics...

Re: UFO ANNUAL 1972

Hofstede
This is really none of anyone's business, but has stimulated some discussion and speculation recently.

The "UFO Annual 1972" - which as we know was published in 2020 - has recently been sold on EBay for £107. The buyer was in Italy, and it's been pointed out that he could have joined Fanderson for £38 a year Euro membership, and bought the "1972" annual at £19.50 (euopean shipping price). That's a total of £57.50. Even allowing for currency conversion charges from the card company and Brexit inspired charges from the shipper, that's still maybe £40 difference.

It goes without saying that in a free market, the price is what the buyer is willing to pay. I've certainly seen things I've "had to have" and bought them without shopping around. The fact that there was only one copy of the "1972 Annual" offered for sale increased its scarcity value.

As someone remarked to me yesterday, it's odd that the "1972 Annual" has gone for more than the "1971 Annual" ever did. But maybe that should be taken as a tribute to the people who produced the "1972 Annual."

I don't expect the buyer will come on here and confirm why he bought the annual - there's no reason in the world why he should. But if anyone does know him, it certainly would settle a lot of idle speculation.

Re: UFO ANNUAL 1972

Here is a link to the original ebay listing:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gerry-Anderson-UFO-Annual-1972-annual-/124608385042?nma=true&si=MXgb%252BEwbHaQliO7MN3FvI1l%252BAVs%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

You will see from this that there were four bidders in total.  It is also possible to see from the feedback that the buyer seems to have been delighted with the transaction.

I noticed this auction at the time (looking for UFO stuff!) and was absolutely amazed at the high price the book went for.  Needless to say, I was neither the seller nor the buyer!
