UFO - Alternate Universe

Neil May
There seems to have been a lot of talk recently about
the fact that a new version of UFO, be it a comic, a
computer-generated cartoon series or a live-action
motion picture, shouldn't be set in the year 1980 as
the year 1980, as we all know, has now gone.

I for one, feel that no reference should be made to
the year 1980 if any of the above are ever produced.
If a year is going to be mentioned, why not the year
2080? All the Anderson series prior to UFO were always
set 100 years after their transmission date, i.e
Thunderbirds (1965) was set in 2065 etc. I think the
only reason they didn't do this with UFO was because
they would have had to have spent a lot of money on
futuristic exterior shots when they did location work
... actually, they could have got round this with
model sets a la Space:1999.

To conclude, and to add another suggestion, UFO is
science fiction so what not say it exists in an
alternate universe where the year 1980 was very
different to ours.

I'll be interested to know what people think!

Neil
