UFO Blu-ray disc

Hi all,

My UFO Blu-ray from Germany arrived today... I've posted
some details on my UFO "what's new" page:

  http://ufoseries.com/new.html

Basically, this is DVD-quality on a Blu-ray disc.

Marc -

Thanks for the info on the German Blu-ray. Perhaps someday we'll see a "real" one.

Bill

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the heads-up anyway... that's a disappointment.

Darn, I was just thinking about ordering a set as well, so you've saved me there. Is there anything included in the set that would make it worth me getting them anyway?

Regards,

Griff

Well, I only have the first volume, but no, this appears to
be DVD material that happens to be on a Blu-ray disc.

The only thing "new" to me is the German dubbing and
subtitles.  :-)

I don't think this even has a menu to select episodes
and scenes from (I say "think" because I don't own
a Blu-ray player that will play PAL, so I have to depend
on software players plus examining the individual .m2ts
files on the disc)

WOW. THIS was educational. I had no idea such standard-def Blu-Rays even existed -- I thought the format itself by definition was high-definition (except for bonus features, perhaps). I'll definitely be more cautious in the future.

Helpful beyond the realm of UFO. Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, I have a Blu-ray writer drive and can BU/archive just over 50GB on a double sided BR disc. Multi-layers are coming out which will mean you can get about 100GB on one disc. I won't be trying that though, as it's way too slow, and it's more economical to buy and backup to a 1 or 2TB hard drive, and then store in a depository.

Saving to the cloud has many issues. I have 100/30GB broadband and it's too slow for me to backup my servers to cloud storage - and I don't trust them too much either...
