I presume all of this is in preparation for the release by Granada Ventures of UFO and other
ITC series in HD-DVD.
As these series were all filmed on professional 35mm film stock there is still bags of definition/resolution
to come.Experiments have even started for ULTRA HD-DVD but that is a little way off yet of course.

Do you know something that the rest of us don't?

Space:1999 is undergoing remastering and restoration, and
they are also making an HDTV transfer for possible future
release, but they will be releasing it in the UK and
Australia in normal definition later this year.

And there are no plans that I know of to re-release UFO
in the UK that I know of.

Maybe so, but the series wasn't really designed to be
seen at these higher resolutions -- and what do you do
about the widescreen aspect ratio of HDTV? Chop off
the top and the bottom of the screen?

Nope, I think this past DVD release is as good as its
going to get. But then again, I said that about the
Japanese laserdiscs back in 1992... :-)

I agree, at the best this is a very long way off in the case UFO and
what will it really achieve anyway? Prticulary when screened in the
average home - very little I suspect.

Not sure HDTV is going to take off - folks have just converted to DVD
and will think of it as marketing ploy repurcahse the catalogue.

I somewhat doubt it .. I don't think the market is perceived as being
big enough. I'm sure some of the Anderson DVD releases were
cancelled, never even made it to regular (low-definiton? :D) DVD.

Still, it's nice to think that it might happen one day.

My UFO DVD's are already of high quality and with nice extras. It
looks like they were restored and compiled by respectful fans, I hope
any future releases maintain a high standard.
