UFO Model Saucer-David Sisson

Mark Davies-3
Just in case anyone may be interested this is a recent e-mail exchange I had with Professional model maker David Sisson regarding the model saucer from UFO.

>David

>Just a quick question.Your models are clearly made to a >very high professional standard.

>Nobody as far as I am aware has EVER made an accurate >replica of the various sizes and types of model UFO used >in the series as designed and filmed by Derek Meddings >and his special effects team at the Century 21 studios.

>Unfortunately even Martin Bowers (brilliant with every other >model he has built) has failed in this respect, his version of >the UFO being a complete parody of the original.

>Do you have any plans at any time in the future to build at >least one of the different sizes or variants of Derek >Meddings
>inspired creation.

>Hi Mark

>There have been a few UFO replicas at various convention >displays over the years and some, ok maybe one, has >looked quite good.(I don't know who made it)

I once made a UFO model a great many years ago, >probably around 1985, but it wasn't that good. My problem >was that I could never decide what the model should be >made from as the various studio models seemed to be >different to each other. Some models looked to have >transparent body parts whilst others looked plain silver and >then the big crashed UFO, seen in a photograph that has >been published no end of times from 'Computer Affair', >appears to have corrugated silver parts.

>So I've never really had a view of what the perfect UFO >should look like and so have not attempted to build one >since. However as a major Gerry Anderson model its >something which sooner or later I will probably turn my >attention to but having transparent domes will be a bit of a >pain to make - I will probably have to make the shapes and >get a local plastic moulding company to make the parts >but its not something I'll be doing for a few years yet.

>Cheers
>David

>Thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.Good to have >your views on this very beguiling model.
