Hi all,
Using Christian's new frame captures, I've updated the main graphic on the "UFO Series Home Page". Check it out at: http://ufoseries.com And if you think it looks exactly the same as before, then perhaps you should look at this comparison: http://ufoseries.com/compare.html Although the old captures are based off the Japanese laserdiscs and the new ones are based off the Carlton DVD's, you cannot really say that this is an accurate comparison of these two sources, because the laserdiscs were captured with an old video capture card and the new ones were with a built-in DVD player. Also, in both cases I've manipulated the brightness, contrast, gamma, color saturation, sharpness, and cropping to my liking. Plus, I used different JPEG compression settings in saving the two (the new graphic is a bit larger, under the assumption that people might have a faster connection than they did 4 years ago). But I think the new one looks nicer, and I also added that Foster guy to the bottom of the screen... Thanks again to Christian for these frame captures! Marc |

Well, my wife tells me that the old graphic is definitely much
better than the new one, so perhaps that was wasted effort... Marc |

Yes, Marc , you can clearly see the difference and improvement in the image
due to the change in color tints and contrast. I say we put Christian up for operative of the month even if I can't see the picture of Jo Fraser in Straker's bedroom. James K.( tossing a kerplop pillow towards Amelia) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Why don't you go to the FILES section on SHADO (at Yahoo!Groups). Click on
the memorymetropolis folder, then scroll down and click on the picture with the June 29, 2002 date?????????? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Saturday, June 29, 2002 11:01 PM Subject: Re: [SHADO] "UFO Series Home Page" main graphic updated! > Yes, Marc , you can clearly see the difference and improvement in the image > due to the change in color tints and contrast. Try this link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SHADO/files/memorymetropolis/respseat-frasernak.jpg (Christian needs to learn how to turn off the "word wrap" before sending long URLs to the list) Marc |

Thanks for the suggest. I finally got to see it what way. I wonder why it
won't show for me the other way since Amelia got it and so can everyone else I guess. James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

The new pictures look great. One thing though, is it just me or do the actors appear to have lost a little weight in the transition from laserdisc to dvd? But I agree with Anny - I think that Col Freeman deserves a prominent spot on the 'front page' more than Col Foster. |

>But I agree with Anny - I think that Col Freeman deserves a prominent spot
>on the 'front page' more than Col Foster. Well yes, and I suppose you could say that the Interceptors are more deserving than SID, and Col. Lake is more deserving than Lt. Ellis... but in selecting pictures, I'm not really looking for things which are "deserving". Instead, I'm thinking of the typical websurfer who may have not seen UFO since the 1970's, and what images from the series might have remained in their head since then, so that when they stumble onto my home page by accident there is an immediate reaction of recognition. Thus, we have things like a flying UFO, Ed Straker with his multi-colored display in the background, SID, a purple wigged operative on Moonbase, and Straker's futuristic car. In fact, now that I recall my original reasoning for the selecting the pictures, I also agree that Foster may not be a good choice -- perhaps an Alien out in the forest from COMPUTER AFFAIR holding onto his silver rifle would be more appropriate, as I think the Aliens would be more memorable than Foster (or Freeman, for that matter) Marc |

It could very well be the differences between my old video capture card and Christian's DVD capture. My question is: which is more "correct" -- skinny, or not skinny? Marc |

Yes, but that's exactly what I mean by deserving - more representative of the series, and therefore I reckon more likely to provoke a recognition reaction. It's just a minor point though, and I think the other images (SID, Straker's car etc) work great .. > In fact, now that I recall my original reasoning for the selecting > the pictures, I also agree that Foster may not be a good choice -- > perhaps an Alien out in the forest from COMPUTER AFFAIR holding onto > his silver rifle would be more appropriate, as I think the Aliens > would be more memorable than Foster (or Freeman, for that matter) > I think the 'Alien sniper' scene from SURVIVAL would work well as well. |

Cause you >are going to need it if you don't watch your step.<g> Well, by deserving I am using parameters such as lines of dialog, number of minutes appeared in the episode, etc. Any way you try to add it up, Lt. Ellis wasn't really in that much of the series. And oh, by the way, on my UFO Series Home Page, I've replaced Foster with an Alien. Thanks again to Christian for providing the frame capture! Marc |
