Hi all,
I just looked at that UFO box art again, and then at the upcoming UFO trading card release dates, and noticed that in both case, our beloved series seems to have a new title. No longer is it simply "UFO", but it is now "UFO Series One". Is there some "UFO Series Two" that we don't know about? :-) -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |
For the trading cards they usually release the card sets in a "series"
sometimes up to 120 cards, so the series referred to could just be their fancy name for the first set of UFO cards. Fair enough, but how do you explain the "Series One" on that DVD box cover?! -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] (wondering why "UFO" would get 2 series of trading cards, while none of the other Gerry Anderson titles appear to be...) |

Perhaps something to do with there being two boxes; the second box might be called "series 2". Daft but possible. >From: Marc Martin <[hidden email]> >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: [hidden email] >Subject: Re: [SHADO] UFO "Series One" >Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2002 21:48:12 -0700 > > >For the trading cards they usually release the card sets in a "series" > >sometimes up to 120 cards, so the series referred to could just be their > >fancy name for the first set of UFO cards. > >Fair enough, but how do you explain the "Series One" on that DVD box >cover?! > >-- >Marc Martin, [hidden email] > >(wondering why "UFO" would get 2 series of trading cards, while >none of the other Gerry Anderson titles appear to be...) > > > > >Your use of Yahoo! I think I might have a answer to this Season On and Season Two thing but its
a streach and the people doing this would have to be sort of clueless. I not really sure about this so if I'm wrong anyone feel free to correct me. I have noticed that in the U.S. that they start talking about second seasons of a running TV series in January. Perhaps this is because so many get cancelled about that time. Perhaps they started to think if they got picked up for the rest of the year, that was a Second season? If this is the case then perhaps this had got in the heads of execs and they now think of a Season as being half a year. If so they might call the first 13 episode of UFO Season One and the second 13 Season Two. To quote another person from Alabama, "Stupid is as stupid does." James K. |

You can almost excuse the typos and spelling mistakes on the DE VHS covers, given that they are in a substantial body of text in small print .. but it would be incredible if a subtitle in large letters went out with two Ls and a Z in 'colonising'. james |

As I recall, there *would* have been some mistakes in the episode titles on the Digital Entertainment VHS releases, except that the designer ran those covers by me first and the errors were corrected before it went to press! Actually, James, when I first saw the show as a teenager, I thought it went two seasons for that very reason. A weekly show usually had 13 eps a season, so that in a year's time, you had season one in the fall, season two in the spring, and summer for reruns. As an adult, I've realized that Britain doesn't use that system, but it still seems strange to have so many episodes in a season!
