UFO: The Animated Series

barnard_3d
I have uploaded a frame from the UFO cartoon I am working on in the
Files section:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SHADO/files/ufo_anim03.jpg

Eventually, I will have a webpage up where the actual animation can
be downloaded. For now, I thought this group would enjoy a preview.

I will be uploading additional drawings and frames as I progress.

Great Shot! What a great idea! Please preview a frame of Animated Lt Ellis in the "quick change" scene - which is a MUST for your series!:) (Just kidding)

Thanks for such an enthusiastic response!

The inspiration for this was definitely Star Trek The Animated
Series. As much as I wish I had the time and access to the voice
talent, my efforts will probably be a bit more, um, modest.

My initial goal is to create a title sequence, similar, but not
exactly like the fast-paced opening sequence of the live-action
show. "Not exactly" means that I plan to add a few extra shots
incorporating some new designs for aliens as well as UFOs. This is a
liberty I am being careful about, but one that I think that could be
cool. All of the SHADO vehicles will be shown in their original
incarnation, and yes, Lt. Ellis is planned to be in the sequence. The
music I am setting this to is the "upbeat" theme, so I only have 30
seconds to show everything - that breaks down to about 10-15 shots
for the entire sequence.

My goal is to simulate the look of commercial animation of the
early '70s. The quality will be better than what Filmation did for
Star Trek, but not much. I have been spending a lot of time these
last few weeks studying the Star Trek cartoon, and the production
shorcuts that were taken.

Presently, I am doing model sheets of the characters. Straker is the
first, as his likeness will be the most important to capture in
the "Filmation" style. This has been challenging, but I am almost
there, and will upload the results when I have something I am happy
with.

Thanks all for your interest.
