Two box sets of four discs each - that is excellent news.
Shame we have to wait another eight months, but at least
Captain Scarlet will be out on DVD at the end of the summer.
I can't wait to see what the remastered UFO eps look like.
Since the BBC are doing it, I hope they've confined themselves
to removing blemishes and cleaning up the picture .. they made
some unfortunate changes to the 'remastered' Red Dwarf.

Actually since we were talking about comparisons with scriptures,
what about Captain Scarlet as Jesus Christ - since he rose from
the dead to become immortal. Colonel Grey would be God, the white
haired man in the clouds ('cloudbase'). No beard but you
can't have everything obviously, and the flip-down microphone
would get caught in it. And the Angels - Melody, Rhapshody,
Harmony et al - are Angels obviously .. and of course Captain
Black is Lucifer, once at God's right hand but fallen from grace.
Actually the more I think about it the more it seems to be based
on the Bible. I suppose Captain Blue would be Saint Paul or
something .. er, anyway just a thought .. :)

<gasp>
It's only for region 2!
<sob>

But it's interesting to note that the updates are set in 2101!

I wouldn't personally be too disappointed that it's only region
2 - multi-region DVD players are quite common these days and not
that expensive. I assume they will be PAL though which would
be less convenient for our North American chums than NTSC,
but even then I believe that there are DVD players available
now in the US which will play PAL DVDs?

Actually Anny, I thought you were based in France which IS part
of region 2 as far as I'm aware. No need to get upset then :)

Anyway, I suppose we'll get the 'Straker on helium' debate again.

Yes, I was just watching the region 2 "Stingray" discs
last night. No problem. And I'll be buying these
region 2 UFO discs too, because I think they'll be
better than the region 1's -- at least in terms of
the extra materials, and probably also in terms of
picture quality.

Indeed! Finally I'll be able to catch up on all those episodes you've been
talking about.

I'll warm up the Apex!

Yes, me too! So Marc, you were saying these will probably be better than
the region one DVDs? Better goodies AND quality? And what do you think the
odds are that they will be released here in region one at all?
But if they ARE, you'll be buying both, anyway, right? ;-)

A&E has said repeatedly that they WILL release UFO on VHS/DVD in the
USA. They just haven't said WHEN. It very well could be around
the same time as the Carlton DVD's -- A&E doesn't usually announce
things this far in advance.

However, with THUNDERBIRDS and SPACE:1999, we've had a chance to
compare the A&E and Carlton DVD's, and so far the Carlton DVD's
have had better quality & better extras, so I would expect the
same thing to happen with UFO.

But yes, you're right. *I* will be buying both... :-)

Err...
<smirk>
Calling me a 'Frenchie' is a kind of mistake, actually...
I once mentionned that French was the language I use everyday, and some
people (I won't name names) assumed that I was living in France... <giggle>
I'm living in Canada, in la Belle Provinde de Québec, in fact.
So, it's region 1 I'll need, if I don't want to buy another DVD player...

> Anyway, I suppose we'll get the 'Straker on helium' debate again.

Nah! Notice, people, that *I* didn't come up with this!
*He* did!
But, still, I had to cringe again when I heard that nice line about the
Dublin technician in that high pitched voice... :-1
Let's hope the DVD version will let us hear His Edness' voice in all its
natural splendor!
