Hi all,
I just received the latest issue of Fanderson's FAB magazine (FAB #70), plus the yearly Fanderson membership bonus item -- both which contain stuff of interest to UFO fans. The magazine contains a very short update on the UFO film, which is nothing you haven't read online already (i.e. "no news"). There is also an interview with actor John Levene, who played Interceptor pilot #2 in the UFO episode CLOSE UP. I find this a bit amusing, because this was such a tiny part, and the actor seemed so excited by it! There is an article on the various home 8mm film releases for the Gerry Anderson TV series, which of course includes the Italian UFO releases. Finally, in the letters section they note that they have no idea whatever happened to Suzanne Neve since the early 1980's, which means that they know less than we do here. :-) The bonus item is a booklet on the various Gerry Anderson viewmaster sets, which of course includes the UFO viewmasters. You can see all of the photos and the booklet pages here (but you also see these on my UFO website). Also, I would have thought in this day and age, better scans could have been made from the viewmaster photos -- I think the scans I made from mine in the 1990's are higher quality than this, and I'm sure I could make even better scans if I were to redo this today... Also, I see that they mixed up the photos/descriptions for some of the UFO viewmaster photos (#18 - #21) -- unless there are different versions of the viewmasters floating around? Marc |

Okay, I just verified this with a quick test scan. On my UFO website, I made this viewmaster scan a long time ago (the late 1990's?): http://ufoseries.com/3d/04b.jpg Using current technology, here is a new scan: http://ufoseries.com/temp/viewmasterTest.jpg Much better. take it to the next step??
Were the images 3d?? If so, there is software that merges it and if you use red/green (?) glasses, you can see the image in 3d looking at one image. Yes, these are 3-D images, and on my original page for this, I scanned the pairs so they could be viewed using 3-D print viewer glasses: http://ufoseries.com/3d/ So I'd think that the "next step" would be to rescan everything using my current scanner and make images for whatever 3-D glasses technology is "in" these days (hopefully it's not red/blue glasses?) Marc |
I can also create a 3d single graphic file too, that people with Nintendo 3ds or 3d TV's can see it. The original image that had two images side by side, they looked like the same image, just twice. Will cut and paste it later, see how it looks.

Yes, well it would be better not to require someone to own something expensive -- for example, the current "stereo pairs" are viewable with cheap plastic glasses. > The original image that had two images side by side, they looked > like the same image, just twice. Look at the left and right edges of the images -- these are two different images, and are in 3-D when viewed correctly: http://ufoseries.com/3d/04b.jpg Marc |

I'd increase the resolution of the scans, though, so you might need a viewer that can handle larger images (or shrink them on your computer). For example, the viewer I use now is this one, which is good for two side-by-side images that are a total of 8" wide: http://www.3dstereo.com/viewmaster/svn-dlor.html While this more expensive viewer could be used for larger stereo pairs: http://www.3dstereo.com/viewmaster/svn-ss1.html Marc |

Yes, and that appears to be the extent of Fanderson's research -- looking her up on IMBD. However, I did some Googling on her several years ago, and reported here that she had been teaching at Mountview drama school (London) as recently as 2006. And I just did some more searching today, and discovered that she has been married to director Richard Martin (who directed Doctor Who episodes in the early 1960's), and that they taught acting classes together at Mountview in the mid 1990's. Plus both were spotted at a book launch in 2009 (Peter Purves' autobiography). From http://peterpurves.net/currentactivities.html: "And I was also thrilled to have the man who responsible for my career ever taking off, director Richard Martin, and his wife actress Suzanne Neve, in attendance." Speaking of Suzanne Neve (and it also being Christmas-time),
I see that the 1970 film "Scrooge" is now out on Blu-ray disc. This features Suzanne Neve and also David Collings (Daniel Clark from THE PSYCHOBOMBS). I don't think I've ever seen this... Marc |

Weird. I was only humming the first bar of this 1970 musical "Thank you very much, (repeat)...that's the nicest thing that anybody's ever done for me.." etc (sung by Anton Rogers of all people) They don't put this on anymore. We always get the TV version with Patrick Stewart and Richard bleedin' E Grant and (apologies the American colourised 1951 version with Alistair Sym. David Collings plays Bob Crachet if you don't know. I love this film so if you can watch it.
Nerd fact over. I was just singing that song the other day! I never saw Scrooge, but always wanted to. I didn't know Suzanne was in it! I sang that song in choir in JR. High and loved it, not knowing what the song was actually referring to (Scrooge's death.) Tis the season to sing Christmas carols, after all! *grin*

Stick to the B&W version of the 1951 classic (the definitive version in my opinion); the colourisation looks awful and is contemptous of the efforts of the original film makers.

Your're right there! I hadn't seen the 1951 film until 2001 and I think I seen haven't seen the 1970 version since last century!
I was watching an episode of "The Six Million Dollar Man" yesterday and in the opening credits I saw "Jane Merrow"? I would never have recognised her, unless it was another actress with the same name (but doubtful). Remind me, she was in "The Dalotek Affair" ? The actress from Dalotek Affair is Tracy Reed who oddly has the same name as an
American actress who is black.
