That's one that I would be more then happy to pick up.

A UFO movie wouldn't be a UFO movie without Moonbase
Operatives wearing purple wigs and SHADO Mobiles without SHADO written on the side. I would hate to see a UFO movie that abandonded the kitsch look of the original like the Lost In Space movie did - that ended up looking like Event Horizon! Also, if you do a UFO movie and you attempt to explain that it's set in 1980 in an alternative universe, believe me, you will confuse audiences from the outset! OK, UFO has to have some fine-tuning to make it work purely on a viceral
level. Let's place the story in the year 2010, but establish that SHADO has been fighting the aliens since the 1980's. But let's get rid of the kitsch (as Neil calls it) - we could keep some things (like those silver suits the operatives wear on MB - but dump the purple wigs - too ridiculous I think), and pump up the hardware of course. I don't feel it's necessary to go all the way back to the scenes with Henderson and Straker in the car and alien attack - all of that is ancient history. Let's start the movie with Straker now in Henderson's post (which gives us our chance to enjoy Ed B), Foster and Freeman are retired or kicked upstairs as well (giving the chance for cameos by Mike and George), and then fill the rest in with new characters who handle the action-adventure part of it. The more I watch David Caruso on CSI: Miami the more I vote for him as a "new" Straker-type character, and I'm open to other ideas (but please no dumb blonde H'wood Bimbos or beefcake types - they all look like they've been cut out of the same dough with the cookie-cutters.....but I digress........) for other new characters. We mix the old with the new and find a way to please both the original UFO fans and hopefully make some new ones with the film. Pam |
A UFO movie will depend on a couple of things.
How much of a budget the film will be given Will it have a good script Who will direct it who will star in it. I love Ed Bishop and all the other actors, but it would be highly unlikely that they would get more than cameos in an American production. We could only hope that the director would be respectful of the material like Bryan Singer was for the X-men movies. Gerry Anderson must be onboard as an executive producer as well. I think that Both UFO and Captain Scarlet have the best chances of reaching a modern audience, becuase both of them have an underlining theme. Terrorism. Alien terrorism that is. Anyway, that's my two cents Robachan |

I clipped this quote because I thought it was a perfect reflection of what the possible producers of a UFO movie could work with in addition to the original UFO premise. Pam Well, Pam, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you :-) I don't think that UFO is about an obviously terrorism because a terrorist wants to terrorise people in a way that the public at large becomes afraid and not only the few people who are involved in the abduction. Terror is the act of threatening the purpose of which is to make people adopt certain points and behaviours in the means of intimidation. The main reason lies on possessing uneven powers between them and their enemies they fight and struggle against. Mostly it appears to be a name given to such an action which is taken on purpose involving converged facts of violence and fear against system and peace. And that's the way most moviegoers would think about a show concerning terrorism. It never occurred to me that UFO has something to do with terrorism because the aliens don't want to rebel against the human race, they want to *use* them for their own purpose and in a rather secret, discreet way. And BTW, each show about an invasion would be a show about terrorism, too. (And then, the Americans would rather think about an INVADERS or PROJECT: UFO (I wonder if *these* shows will ever be seen on DVD...) movie then an *exotic* show like UFO ;-) Therefore BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is more obviously a show about terrorism as UFO. The Cylons rather terrorise the human race (like the terror bombings of WWII). I know, in colloquial language the term *terror* is often used in other context, too, even a child sometimes *terrorise* its parents ;-) So I don't think that producers and the audience would be interested in our show because they connect it with terror/terrorism. I can't see a UFO movie being made with Ed Bishop as
Henderson and cameos from George Sewell and Mike Billington. These actors mean nothing in America, where the film will primarily be aimed at, as it could be an American-made film and America has the biggest movie audience in the world. The story needs to be told from the beginning with new actors to work, In my opinion. Neil __________________________________________________ It's Samaritans' Week. Help Samaritans help others.
