Hi, I agree with Claire, it wouldn't *quite* be the same. I bet they
would cast other actors in the lead roles and maybe put the original actors in brief cameos, as they did in the "Lost in Space" movie. Hmm. Give Sean Bean a blonder mane and let him be Straker, and Ed Bishop could play perhaps Straker's dad...? Or Bishop could play a General-Henderson-type giving Straker a hard time. Just a thought. Should I now join Claire in front of a SHADO firing squad? No, I don't think they'd shoot us for speaking our minds, Claire. Maybe they'll just put us on SHADO KP duty. That might be almost as bad, I hear Straker is *really* picky about his tofu burgers.... ~Cathy |

Tofu?????? I'd rather be shot.
The main question seems to be do we do a "Modren" UFO with the old characters or do we do "SHADO of the 21st Century"? Personally I can see points for both sides, and I also forsee that somebody won't like something about it no matter which way they go with it. I loved Spiderman, even though they screwed his history up big time, but disliked Dare Devil for pretty much the same reason. As I said, an awful lot of things are going to have to jell for this movie to make it, if it ever gets off the ground, that is. |

Me too. But I think that some things need to remain the same. We still need an angsty commander in chief. *grin* And I still think that Elijah Wood has the eyes for the job! And let's face it, folks. Alien concepts have changed so much in the past thirty years that no one will keep them their same mysterious selves. Which is a shame. You really can't redo UFO. Even CGI will just make it a kids' show unless someone does a Final Fantasy job on it, which they probably won't. I'll go see a new UFO movie, IF one ever gets off the ground, but it won't be the same. But, hey! I've got my DVDs and my fan fic, so I can live with that. Yours, Denise BTW, great scenario, James K.! Straker, somehow it's always about you.

Thanks for the compliment Denise. Maybe I' ll get the thing wrote up one day
after I untie a few Gordian Knots. As to yours and other suggetions about whom to get to replace Straker. I really can't see it, at least not in my idea for the movie. It would be rather like trying to cast someone other Bogart in The Big Sleep or The Maltesse Falcon or someone other than Gene Kelly in American in Paris or Singing in the Rain, or someone other than John Wayne in Stagecoach or Hondo. We aren't talking actors here but Icons. Its hard to find an actor who will fit into the Icon role that defined another actor. But that is just my opinion. James K. Have to agree with James K on the idea that certain actors are icons and
cannot be replaced by other actors. Remember that crummy sequel to Gone With The Wind? Who the heck did Tim Dalton think he was taking on the role of Rhett Butler? Rhett Butler IS Clark Gable, right? Same with Straker, Captain Kirk, et al. Pam |
