Hi all,
Coming soon... UFO on Blu-ray disc in Germany: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0087OSL3E/wunschliste Although I think some of the German Blu-ray releases have been in standard definition (squeezing in more episodes per disc). Not sure what this one will be... Marc |

Looks like this is 9 episodes on 1 Blu-ray disc,
which would mean that this is NOT high definition. Marc On June 9, Marc Martin <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi all, > > Coming soon... Although everyone raves about how great UFO looked on DVD, I remember that it had obvious MPEG-2 compression artifacts. So if this German company bothered to encode this in MPEG-4 or with a higher bitrate, this could look better than any previous DVD release. I've ordered a copy from Amazon.de so I can take a look at exactly what's on it -- MPEG2/MPEG4, bitrate, languages, mono/5.1 surround, etc. I will report on this when I know something (unless someone else beats me to it). Well .. at the time it did seem to look fantastic but I watched it on a 26" CRT TV. And since it was intended for considerably less modern tellies in the early '70s it did seem reasonable to judge it on that basis at the time. On a more revealing modern PC or flat screen TV it does look a little rough, unfortunately. > > I've ordered a copy from Amazon.de so I can take a > look at exactly what's on it -- MPEG2/MPEG4, bitrate, > languages, mono/5.1 surround, etc. I will report > on this when I know something (unless someone else > beats me to it). > Dedication 8) James -- |

Not wishing to split hairs here Marc, but MPEG4 is more of a package than a format. The best BluRay compression is H.264, which is considerably better than the standard MP4 codec.

Yes, that's what I meant -- the Blu-ray discs could (in theory) be encoded in H.264. However, a new review on Amazon.de indicates that this Bluray disc is using exactly the same files that were used for a previous DVD release (if I'm reading this correctly!): "Wer hier Blu-Ray übliche HD-Auflösung erwartet wird enttäuscht. Auf der Disc befinden sich genau die gleichen Dateien, wie auf den Einzel-DVD's, also mickrige TV-Auflösung." Marc |

not trying to steal this thread but i wanted to jump in asap with this new small ufo paper model, you can use a glass egg or hard boiled egg press molded into clear plastic, for the shell.
i hope you model builders like it. --- On Sun, 6/17/12, Marc Martin <[hidden email]> wrote: From: Marc Martin <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [SHADO] Re: UFO on Blu-ray disc! This is good for virus protection, but bad for people who want to share photos via e-mail. I suppose in this day and age we could allow attachments on SHADO, but then again we do have a "photos" area for that sort of thing... Marc |
i forgot, thank you.
i hope you try my model out and see if it is good enough! i have found that a heat gun and sponge, heating up thin plastic sheets, and mashing an egg into the foam with the plastic inbetween, makes a great shell. jim --- On Sun, 6/17/12, Marc Martin <[hidden email]> wrote: From: Marc Martin <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [SHADO] attachments To: [hidden email] Date: Sunday, June 17, 2012, 1:36 PM On June 17, "." <[hidden email]> wrote: > it didnt attach so i will just go post it in the photos section.
