Strange, I walked into my local Curry's the other day and was quite surprised by what I saw.It was bristling with plasma and LCD tv's.The blurb in the high street entertainment magazines selling these tv's go to great pains commenting on being High Definition ready. Not surprising when you consider that plasma and LCD screens are high definition displays. What's the point in selling a boat only to be told you can only use it in your back yard paddling pool.High definition transmissions in the UK may not arrive just yet,but this is not the trigger point for High Definition. It will be the release of Hollywood Movies in High Definition.High Definition will arrive very quickly on Computers (they are already available, and to UK customers). The world is also now vastly different from what it was when Colour television or Video first arrived.DVD arrived spectacularly in a few short years, and it was'nt recordable DVD that was the catalyst,it was Hollywood Movies and the improved picture and sound quality....expect High Definition to have much the same effect. Its funny how Gerry Anderson failed to comment on Carltons DVD treatment of his shows, but made a point of saying how sympathetic they [Granada] were towards him. Is this pandering to Granada [very un -Gerry Anderson like] or a true reflection of what he thinks Granada can do for his productions. It is possible after all that he does have a special relationship with them. Of course this does'nt automatically mean that Granada will release High Definition versions of UFO.Technically speaking however this may have already been catered for with the existing restoration. So it may simply be a case of transfer, not more restoration work. Plasma and LCD TVs are great in terms of potential screen size and being panel-shaped, but they don't actually provide as good a picture as old-fashioned CRT screens - so I wouldn't think they'd really be the best way to watch high definition TV, at least until they improve.
