Thanks Marc.

If they are re-masters then someone has gone to a good deal of trouble for an old series like UFO.Very encouraging.Pity about the widescreen though.

I may be a little technologically dense here, but could it be that UFO wasshot originally so that wide screen will do what it does in movies, giving you the bits and pieces off the side that formatting for a tv screen doesn't give you rather than deleting top and bottom stuff? I know movies lose detail when formatted for full screen while they retain everything whenshown letterbox or widescreen format (which is how most of them are shot these days <g>). I mean, why would you bother to widescreen it if you're losing parts of the shot? If they've gone to the trouble of remastering it to HD, that would seem to kinda defeat the purpose of making the best master they could ....

then again, the techs could simple be exercising their right to experiment ... LOL. It'll be decades before I see it anyway ....

No, UFO was not filmed to be seen in widescreen. Here is an example
of what the film dimensions are:

The people who remastered UFO for the DVD releases specifically made
sure that we could see as much as the original frame as possible.
Formatting it for widescreen requires chopping off the top and/or
bottom of the original film frame, so you will see less than what's
on the DVDs.

Hopefully we will find someone who has the Dish Network HDTV channels
and also can make us a frame capture of what they are broadcasting.
Then we can compare that with the same frame from the DVD sets.
