UFO remake in CG

Hmmm, the jury's out on this one for me. I'm a bit old fashioned and would like to see it done like Battlestar Galactica: new cast, mix of live actionwith CG effects. Then, we could go to conventions and meet our heroes:-).

I did like the NCS a lot and although they based the look of the CGI cast on the original puppets they changed other stuff. Lt Green had a sex change and Col White lost his wheelchair. And the voices were different - something more 'retro' would have had Francis Matthews back doing the voice. Minor changes and 'updates' of the format gave it new life and story possibilities.

Likewise with UFO. Would it look better done in CGI with the same look as the original or update it with a new cast, preserving the main concepts but with sufficient 'tweeking' to enhance them?. It would be interesting to have a new cast to see what they could do with the characters. It worked in Star Trek: The Next Generation. same idea, different time zone. Doing UFO allin CGI and making it look like the'69 original, complete with recreations of Ed, Mike, Peter, Vladek etc, seems to me to be a massively over-engineered retrospective exercise that comes over as being over-nostalgic.

There's a similar idea floating for years in Star Trek circles. If the Federation have replicating technology capable of building objects from raw matter, then instead of building starships, they could build one massive replicator and program it to build starships, creating an entire fleet simply bypressing a button several times.

If the original were to be recreated, then perhaps it should be live action. After all, creating a totally retro-looking all-CGI version of the 1969 UFO would seem a bit ironic in view of the fact that the show was one of Gerry's first forays into live action, escaping the 'synthetic' universe of puppets and moving into the real world:-)
