Has anyone checked the UFO pages at IMDb lately?
Because a new feature that the 'site has added in the last few months to all their TV shows is an episode listing with initial Transmission Dates and you can see the list with or without cast details... With cast: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0063962/epcast Without cast: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0063962/episodes Now the reason i brought this to your attention is not just because it's about our All-Time Favourite TV Show, (well it is and it is MY All-Time..., so there!) but because... Who thought of that crazy Transmission Order(T.O.)??! Putting The Cat With Ten Lives in third? Destruction ninth? The Psychobombs twelfth? Mindbender fourteenth? Flight Path fifteenth? Timelash eighteenth? The Computer Affair & Confetti Check A-OK twenty-first and twenty-second respectively? And finally putting The Responsibility Seat as the penultimate episode, no. 25? (Why delay The R. Seat until 03/71 and not Timelash?) Those are the ones that stick out the most for me. In my view, if you're gonna watch 'em all, the perfect T.O. will be:- Identified (of course) followed by Exposed, then Computer Affair, C.C. A-OK, Flight Path & A Q. of P. (to account for the period Foster is being trained up). Then the other episodes Paul appears in with Freeman (in any order, just so long as they're from the first Production Block), followed by the Lake episodes (again any order from the second P. O., although i do like to have The Long Sleep last because of Straker's second flashback to the time he was setting up SHADO). Now there are three things which bother me about my T.O.: 1) How long would it take SHADO to train Foster up? (I've always thought about 6-9 months. In theory they could put him on a crash course, so he can get up to speed ASAP.) 2) How long does it take for a UFO to travel from it's Homeworld? (I'd say anything from 4-6 months, probably more. You also need to think how long it would take for the Aliens to think up their little schemes.) 3) Taking the above into account, episodes featuring the Aliens could therefore be up to a year apart while epis. which don't could take place as soon as on the same week (or one week apart) as either the previous or succeeding epi. Thanks for taking the time to read my rant. If anyone knows which tv company was insane enough to broadcast that T.O., or has any thoughts/objections (calm, reasoned & logical or just plain violent) on my T.O., i'd be interested in hearing them. Regards, Simon. |

If anyone knows which tv > company was insane enough to broadcast that T.O... It was ATV Midlands, the 'home channel' of the company which financed 'UFO'in the first place, during its first U.K. transmission! 'The Responsibility Seat' (along with 'The Long Sleep', which was made lastanyway) was quite famously held back because of its 'adult' themes, never aired during the first run of episodes, and had a late-night slot during repeats in 1973. I don't know which channel in the UK TRS did air on first, but I'm presuming it was probably ATV Midlandsas well... I've just joined the group and feel I can lurk no more. I first saw the
show in 1971 I think on Cypriot television in black and white and I absolutely loved it. I haven't seen it since well not all the way through so I think a purchase of DVDS is on the cards :-) That's it. Further to my last post, it seems Anglia was the first to show 'The Responsibility Seat' and 'The Long Sleep' in 1971. This channel, along with several others, started showing UFO at the same time as ATV, but ATV pulled the show because of low ratings and started again in early 1971. Anglia continued though, and was among the first to show all26 episodes in the UK. Shaqui The Gerry Anderson Complete Comic History http://www.technodelic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Home.htm . |
Thanks for your replies Moonbasegirl & Shaqui. I guess out of all
the UK ITV regions ATV Midland would have been the most obvious, whatever transmission order they were using. --- In [hidden email], "Shaqui" <shaqui@...> wrote: > > --- In [hidden email], "Shaqui" <shaqui@> wrote: > > > 'The Responsibility Seat' (along with 'The Long Sleep', which was made last anyway) was > quite famously held back because of its 'adult' themes, never aired during the first run of > episodes, and had a late-night slot during repeats in 1973.
