I have been away from this group for a while. Has anything happened
towards a sequel to the UFO series? (Apart from the large amount of
text fan-fiction.)

Not that I'm aware of. There was an announcement many years ago about
Carlton working on a sequel series to be produced by Trilogy Entertainment,
but there has been no news since then.
