Is there a specific wiki for the UFO series? Is there likely to be one?

A good wiki, a well-organized resource for information and facts about a subject, is generally terrifically useful. -- Jonathan Andrew Sheen http://www.leviathanstudios.com Leviathan of the GEI (Detached.) I'm just not sure what the "value added" is -- there are already lots of websites out there devoted to UFO, including a Wikipedia page. What will this wiki page contain that is not already available? And who exactly is going to create/maintain it? Marc |

There is a UFO Wiki at http://ufoseries.wikia.com/wiki/Special:MyHome Wikipedia is for the real world and is restrictive on fictional "in-universe" matter; always there is someone who treats it as "fan-cruft" or similar and shortens it to a stub. (Compare that Yahoo has many of old spam-ridden email groups whose administrators have all gone 404.) It might be better for one of us to start a new UFO series wiki, and this email group's administrators can also be administrators of that new wiki. |
Hi All,
Speaking purely personally... I like things just as they are at the moment.I am sure I am not the only one that suffers from lack of time, and simplydon't have the time to go looking for comments and contributions on a WIKIor even a forum. What we have at the moment: - When someone contributes to this list, it gets posted to us via email, and we don't have to go looking for it as in a forum. You can take it or leave comments as they come, and comment to them as and when you wish. - For reference, we have Marc's EXCELLENT UFO Series website; a categorizedand well balanced and organised repository of information about UFO. - Sure, there are other UFO sites, but with respect in my opinion none comeclose to the reference standard and completeness that Marc Martin has achieved. Forums are okay for certain discussions and references, but again and take the Fanderson list vs. forum as example. I subscribe to the Fanderson list, but don't have time to plough through the Fanderson forum 'looking' for entries. Maybe it works for others, but not for me, and I suspect others. I like the 'immediacy' of lists such as this, and I like the interaction asit promotes intelligent discussion. A WIKI unless managed and organised soon becomes a disorganized mess, with contributions from anyone and anywhere (some accurate, but most inaccurate - just look at the current problems at Wikipedia), and inevitable and distracting arguments over what is legitimate; it soon becomes impossible to differentiate between 'fact' and 'fiction', and in the case of UFO, this is hard enough already. It would soon become an embroiled mass of confusion. No,personally I do not have the time for that and am not interested. Even if it did work, what would be end up with? What we already have in a different form of Marc's UFO Series website... Thanks, Griff --- In [hidden email], "anthonyappleyard2" <a.appleyard@...> wrote: Whether it is advisable to use http://ufoseries.wikia.com/wiki depenbds on whether any of its administrators are still active and whether can be contacted. I'm not volunteering for that... :-) There are all sorts of improvements I'd like to make to my own UFO website (although lately I have not been making that a high priority), not "start over" with something new.
