UFO to be remastered in Hi-Def

Hi all,

On the Space:1999 discussion group(s), there is much talk about
that series receiving "the deluxe treatment", in that a UK
company (Network) is about to release new DVDs based on a
new remastering. This remastering was done both for the
DVDs and also in Hi-Def, for some possible future release
or broadcast. Also of interest is that one of the alternate
DVD soundtracks will feature an isolated music track.

I hear that at the recent Fanderson convention, a representative
from Network said that UFO will also receive this Hi-Def
remastering in the (near?) future. I don't know if this means
that Network is planning on doing its own UFO DVD release
for the UK.

I think most people thought the first UFO DVD release was fine
(certainly better than they sometimes criticized first DVD
release of Space:1999), so I'm not really sure if there
is any demand for another UFO DVD release. Certainly
if there are isolated music tracks that will be an interesting
extra, but probably not enough for people who already own
and are happy with their current UFO DVDs.

But it is an interesting development... I would have thought
UFO was a long way off from being remastered again...

On other discussion groups, they've noted that BBC Resources
(the company which remastered UFO for the DVDs) only just
acquired the equipment to do HDTV conversions in time to
do the upcoming Space:1999 DVD release.

Hi Marc.

For the record, there wasn't a representative from Network at
Countdown To Disaster, but I guess this rumour could have come about
at Destination Moonbase Alpha.

However, UFO is not one of the ITC series that Network have the rights
to exploit - Granada retained them themselves.

All, well, my source didn't specify which Fanderson event
they went to...

Hmmm, so this means that the rumor is either completely wrong,
or that perhaps Granada is remastering UFO on their own.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see... and try not
to spread too many false rumors... :-)
