UFO

Paul Bowers
Please forgive the following blathering:

Why is this group here? Is it a chat group for people wanting to sell stuff?

What I am interested in is the resurrection of UFO as a television program.

Resurrected as in being released on DVD, or a new series being made today?
Someone was going to give Aaron Spelling a ring about this a while
back...did it ever happen? ;D

Seriously, the Australians tried this in '96 and it didn't get off the
ground for lack of financial support, even though Gerry Anderson gave it
his blessing and Ed Bishop agreed in principal to reprise his role as Straker.

Read all about it on Marc's site:

I agree with Paul. Unless we're discussing UFO TV show actual model building
(with pix so we can all see) let's dispense with the OT talk and the sales
chat. Pam

No, we're not here to sell stuff; we're here to talk about and discuss
the show and the people involved with it. Members of this list have
tried at least twice to resurrect the show, but hasn't happened. Not as
a TV show or a film, at any rate - although there IS a comic book series
coming out. What did you have in mind?

I hope not!!! Tori Spelling as Lt. Ellis? Do we REALLY want that?

Aaron Spelling sucks - the only producer worse than him is Stephen J.
Cannell.

Re: UFO

I have to disagree, I like the model [making] talk [unless it is
wildly off topic] UFO is one of the main reasons why I have a life
long obsession with model making] and it is a intrinsic part of UFO
and [nearly] all other Anderson shows.

As regards getting the show remade, I think people need to get real
here [no offence] but it really is'nt going to happen - who is going
to invest in a 30 year Sci-fi series when the likes of Star Trek with
it's huge fan base is starting to struggle and contract.

I for one would'nt want to see it happen anyway - for me it would
totally distract from the original. Yes, the original series is a
little ropey at the edges in places, but it has a sense of time, place
and style and thats the appeal for me, as well a link back to my
childhood [ if we are being honest that is why the vast majority of
us are here], lets remember UFO for how good it was, in it's time. Not
for a poor remake.

Just wait for the howls of angish when new Thunderbird movie hit's the
circuit next year. There is already a bad vibe about the movie, and
the T word has already been mentioned in a significant number of
quarters ! The same happened with Get Carter, Lost in Space, Planet of
the Apes -it will happen with the Italian Job and the Wicker Man, mark
my words

I would HATE this to happen to UFO.

I also have no problem with sales as long as it, is'nt an overt
business/dealer - it is one of the reasons I visit the group on a
regular basis. I nearly always skip the episode discussion. I don't
complain about if you don't like move on to posts that interest you. I
don't think there is a problem.

Italian DVD

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
In reply to this post by David Richards
I asked this a while back, as far as I'm aware it did'nt get a
response: has anyone got a source that will ship the Italain produced
DVD to the US/UK when it is eventually reased. I have had a good
search on-line, there appears not to be Amazon Italy or a equivelant
type on-line store. But, as I can't read Italian so it highly likely I
could have missed somewhere. Could any the Italian subcribers assist
with this one.

Pam/Paul:

Not sure what OT chat/sales chat you're talking about? Did I miss something?

I don't remember anything recently that was wildly OT.

I'm with you there Paul. I've been pretty much ignoring the list for the
past month or so. A lot of the OT subjects go to far over the edge.

>Why is this group here?

Gee, I always thought it was a outlet for fans to gather and discuss UFO and
the cast and related items. And perhaps we sometimes get a bit off topic but
the world gets a bit dull if you only see things in one color wouldn't it?

As to the thing about a New version of UFO as a TV series. Sure love to see
it, if done correctly. Like a couple of people have already said there have
been two trys at it one from the land down under with Ed Bishop and Gabrielle
Drake both being asked to take part and agreeing and a try by a finacial
person of some importance to do so a few years ago that never got past the
talk stage that was dropped suddenly without explaination(we I never heard
one anyway).

So the only way I see a new series of UFO coming is if some becomes a
multi-billionaire and buys a TV network, does matter which one but I think
CBS would be poetic justice since they backed out on the second series of UFO
back in the early 1970's and say simply to the people there you own the
company it they will obtain the rights to UFO and develop a new series a
close to the original as possible and hopefully get as many of the original
cast to recreate their roles at the senior members of SHADO and then bring in
the new younger cast that will also be need and stick with the series no
matter the rating for at least 3 years.

Okay who's got 15 to 20 billion they aren't using?

James K.

On my "What's New" page, I've got links to 2 online retailers which
are carrying the Italian DVDs -- www.dvd.it and www.dvd2k.it. Both
of these sites have "English" options on them, so I assume they
must ship out of the country. Have you tried either one of them?

I've got direct links to the UFO volumes...

Italian DVD 9 DVD Set ?

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
Marc

Thanks, for the link - no I don't think I have come across those
sites.

On the www.dvd.it states, that the Deluxe edition is a 9 DVD set!!!
[if correct that I assume would be the whole series, plus the bonus
disc] The price is 109 Euro, which is a chunk more than the other set.
Maybe, a Italian speakers could confirm or deny that this.

This site has it wrong -- the first set has 12 episodes on 4 DVDs (5
DVDs for the deluxe edition). The second set is expected in the
summer.

Re: Italian DVD 9 DVD Set ?

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
I have just been to www.dvd2k.it, although there is no mention of the
number of discs, it does give a running time of 1100 mins which
roughly equates to the the whole series [give or take :-)]. Although
it does mention it being season one and have a price of 79 Euro.

Could be the Italian production company had a change of heart and
bring the whole series out as one set ??? :-)

Italian DVD

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
I have just ordered the Italain UFO deluxe set from www.DVD.it. If
anyone is interested, is was easy and straight forward. I just had to
resort to a translator once, that was towards the end, when I input
the final details of my cc, ironically is was asking for my name as it
appeared on the card.

Konami SID has landed

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
I recieved my Konami SID today. Considering it a premium it is a
absolutley stunning piece of work - a really accurate representation
of the studio original, even down to some neat dirtying down/dry
brushing.
