I should sometime dig up the old issue of Fanderon's FAB
(or was it FAB NEWS?) where they had an article about
them finding lost materials for UFO's second season.
This turned out to be an April Fools, but it was so
convincing that it convinced me, and of course with
a paper publication they couldn't say 24 hours later
that it was just a joke (although I think they had
some fine print elsewhere in the issue that I missed).

I think that story had a bit of a backlash too...

Marc,
I thought the 'gag' was great. I do game programming on the side from my
day to day job and April Fool stories in the game industry is a
tradition. I must have received 20 or 30 stories that turned out to be
gags in the end. They were all very believable, but in the end were not
true. We all get a good laugh and move on. We need this in our high
pressure industry.

I look forward to your next one. :)

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The way I see it you
actually produced the script so why would anyone be mad. If you'd
gotten some people's hopes up and then they felt foolish for believing
you then maybe they'd be upset.

All in all it was a very gentle April Fool's joke. I didn't even clue
into the fact that it was April 1st so it went right by me until it was
pointed out :)

Can you explain what the backlash was? Just curious!

Could have been a modicum of truth in that though as UFO's second series
became Space:1999.

Well, I don't know exactly, it just sounded like there
were fans who believed that the article was true about
them finding UFO season 2 materials, and were looking
forward to reading them, and then were mad when they
later learned it was all a joke.

Just like we had someone here who said it would be
a "cruel hoax" to make up that a lost UFO script
had been found...
