Not precisely.
I have informations that "velcro" is *invented* (from George De Mestral) in
1948.
1957 (or '55) is the year of the *patented* of the "velcro".

Note: If the white jacket of the Commander Straker in "Survival" is the same
white jacket in "Court Martial", just I note the difference of colours of
the "velcro" tapes on the jacket: black in "Survival" and white in "Court
Martial". Maybe the production team in UFO think to look better the white
"velcro" tape on the white jacket, and not the black "velcro" tape on the
same white Straker's jacket.
