Sorry. On FAB-UFO and on a 3D graphics forum in the past I have read many
stories and warnings about incompatibilities between Quicktime and Netscape.
Please, which versions of each are safe with each other? Sorry to trouble
everybody.

Yes, obviously I've seen people who are having troubles too, but I
think you can say that about every single aspect of owning a
computer. :-)

The Quicktime movies on my website log about 1000 downloads per
month, and yet the number of e-mails I get from people having
troubles with them are on the order of 1 per month. So it would
appear that most people aren't having problems.

I can't say which versions are and aren't safe with each other, since
I think I've tried about all of them without too much trouble. I
have experienced the white screen/no sound problem, but this was
because I was using a Quicktime version 2.x player/plugin on a file
which required version 3 or higher.

I stopped downloading quicktime movies a long time ago. In memory of the
installing of Quicktime 4 on my old computer causing the same problems
someone else mentioned (Yuchtar?), that my midi files played weird as well
as the quicktime thingie altering file associations.
Actually, why don't you mpeg files instead, Marc? I get very good results
with mpegs. I have quite a few of them at my Bocelli site and everyone says
they play great on their computers even when played full screen.

BTW, I know some of you still have my ping address in their address book,
since I sometimes get emails at that address. Well, ping was taken over by
pi (Planet Internet) and within a few months, the ping address will cease
to exist. So please delete all references to my ping address on your
computers and substitute it with the [hidden email] one. Until one day gmx
gets taken over by another company? :-)

Oh, BTW2, welcome to the list, Carly. Whereabouts in the UK do you live? I
lived in Hove (near Brighton) once upon a time, also in Inverness and Lower
Foyers (Scotland)

Well, I don't have an MPEG encoder on my PowerMac, which is problem
number one... (as Straker would say)

BTW, I see that the FAB-UFO Archives are back online!!! However,
I don't see that the mailing list is actually working -- I just
sent a test message and nothing happened. But it's a good
first step!

Well, all I know is QT 4 permanently screwed up Netscapes ability to
play MIDI files - it's no HUGE deal, but damned irritating.

As for the version of player, how do you tell? Shouldn't QT4 replace
older versions when you install it?

If so, Quicktime isn't the only program that does that stupid trick. I stopped
trying Corel Draw bacause it altered the associations of some graphic file
modes. I don't use Windows 95 Paint because it alters the association of the
.BMP suffix :: instead I use Paintbrush that I salvaged from my old Windows
3.11 , and it can cut / paste on zoomed images, which Windows 95 Paint can't.
