Hi all,
Fanderson chairman Chris Bentley was recently asked by Gerry Anderson how many countries UFO has been shown in, and so far he's compiled the following list of countries that he knows about: Australia Austria Belgium Canada France Holland Italy Japan New Zealand Spain United Kingdom United States West Germany Since this list has members from around the world, I was wondering if anyone knows of other countries that UFO has been broadcast in that we could add to this list? Thanks! Marc |
Yes, Marc!
Brazil , back in the 70's . And Argentina too ( I watched it there some years ago ) |

Used to watch them, every Sunday night at 7pm, I probably was around 8 years old! Since I had only watched the episodes in spanish, it was very interesting to hear for the first time Straker's, Foster's (and the rest) voices in english (when I bought the few UFO episodes on VHS a couple of years ago)! I kinda think that the voices in spanish sounded better! David Levine |

It too was quite popular among my brothers, classmates, and friends when it came out. The two UFO paperback novels (U.K. version) were even available in the local bookstores (I still got 'em!). Guys... Scratch Holland - it was NEVER aired here! Unfortunately...
So, what does the list look like right now? Regards, John |

>So, what does the list look like right now? Well, if we take the original list and add/subtract the countries mentioned here, we'd have the following new list: Australia Austria Argentina Belgium Brazil Canada Finland France Italy Japan Malaysia Mexico New Zealand Philippines Portugal Spain United Kingdom United States West Germany Anyone know of any more countries that UFO has ever been broadcast in? Thanks! Marc (who is wondering why Gerry Anderson would want this information, unless he's preparing a pitch to make a UFO feature film...) |

Sort of on this topic- I don't remember if I've told this story before on FAB-UFO aka SHADO but the first time I saw UFO was in Germany on vacation with my parents. I think I was around 11 years old (Guessing here) which makes it around 1973??? I believe I was in the Munich area. We did visit Munich at some point during the visit and then made trips into Tegansee (sp?) which is the small town in Bavaria where my mother was born. The scene was on Moonbase, I remember clearly the purple wigs (And color TV was a big deal to me back then!) and i believe Straker and Foster were there as well. I couldn't watch the entire episode as we were going someplace (This is 29 years ago!) and I don't speak German (Except for Ich Bin American! No Sprechen Deutsch!) but I remember being thrilled by the show and asking my mother to ask my uncle what the show was and when it would come to America. I should have asked them to buy me UFO books! |

Pls add Switzerland.
I recall episodes IN COLOR aired by the Italian-speaking Swiss TV channel which could be received also where I live. It was around 1974. Straker, Foster, whirring UFOs, and lovely purple wigs have been on my mind since then. teresa (ita) > Marc Martin ha scritto: > > > > >Guys... Scratch Holland - it was NEVER aired here! Marc and everyone else as to the possiblity of Gerry wanting to know
which countries UFO was shown in for doing a pitch for doing a major motion picture of it is possible. A couple of weeks ago when I was in the new bookstore I spotted a new book titled "The Greatest Sci-Fi Films Never Made". Well with a title like that I had to look and I found a whole chapter given to the Thunderbirds movie or the lack of one. Scanning the chapter I didn't get the whole of the thing but it seemed that what has delayed the film since the idea was first announce was that Gerry was never happy with other people doing the work. One comment that sparked a war was that he did want a American scriptwriter doing what was a classic British series. This got a angry response from the American scriptwriter doing the working concept script saying something like Gerry had a lot of nerve when when he based the series on American character who are basically the Cartwrights and the only two British characters in the show are Lady Penelope and Parker. It just shows how small minded people in Hollyweird can be and what can sink a movie or TV show idea. James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
